I saw Ian Bostridge last night in all of his recital eccentricity. The Mozart Saal at the Konzerthaus is very live. I cannot decide how I feel about his Schubert. Sometimes he creates the most haunting phrases, you cannot breathe (An den Mond II). Other times, he is a bit too affectual. It worked for the Vaughn Williams set he did. Faure's La Bonne Chanson rounded out the program. Ich bin ganz verliebt. I don't even mind staring at him bum, which he showed the audience quite a few times as he faced his accompanist to sing.
I tried to go to the police station to register myself (I am a great threat to austrian national security, I guess). The place closes at 2. 2!! So much for getting my library card today. I woke up with a little cold, so today has been a bust. Some things about this place drive me nuts.
The Rathaus Christkindlmarkt opens on Saturday. I can't wait!
