i kinda figured it out

so my lj just started working again. it wouldn't let me update or check my friends page for a loooong time, and I've got about an hour on my hands before I have to be anywhere, so I thought I'd post.

Let's see. This semester is an odd one. I'm only taking 16 hours, but I have to go to an elementary school four four hours a week and mentor these two little boys, and my film class is meeting once a week in the classroom and then once a week in greenbriar (the little movie theater on campus) for like two + hours to actually watch the movie, so I'm a lot busier than 16 hours suggests. Brian and I are still together and doing well. He came up this weekend and we did valentine's. He got me a build a bear dressed like a hockey player (he's obssessed with hockey) aaaand... a tiffany's necklace! I was really excited. I mean, I asked for it, but I didn't think he'd get it for me. It's really pretty. I'll try to figure out how to post a pic. I went to colorado for a week to go skiing with my dad and some of his friends and it was awesome! It was so much fun. Colorado is gorgeous, and the skiing was just perfect. I haven't seen my mom since I left for school, and we're both really bummed so she's coming up this weekend so we can have a girl's weekend. I'm excited. hmm... oh! Since val won't talk about it in her lj, I will. We're living together next year! Turtle Creek #8! We signed our lease last week and I'm really excited. Two of my soro sisters are going to live right next door, which might be a blessing or a curse, we'll find out.

Ok. My mentoring program is called 5th Dimension, and I go with half my class to this tiny school (200 students and it's K-8) like 15 miles outside of Boone. This place is in the sticks, and it's a Title I school, which means they don't make growth expectations. I'm assigned to two little boys, josh and austin. Josh is 8 ("almost nine" even though his birthday isn't til august) and in second grade and austin is seven and in first grade. Austin is my favorite because he lets me cuddle him. He always gives me these HUGE hugs and draws me pictures and stuff. But about once every other week he gets in the worst moods ever and will just pitch a fit over every little thing I have him do. Josh is the most annoying little kid I've ever met in my life. He talks with the most hick accent (that doesn't bother me, I'm from WV), but he LIES. This kid just straight up lies to my face. "We have five horses. My Rottweiler bit off my neighbor's ear this morning. I'm taller than my teacher. (he's 8) I'm taller than you." And it just keeps going. He never shuts up. He tries so hard to act all grown up and mature since he's older than austin but the things he says just never make sense. The kids are all so different. I consider myself upper middle class, and these kids definitely are working class. Some rotate like three shirts, and most of them are on free lunch. It's really sad, but most of them are really bright and fun to work with.

ok I'm sure y'all all really cared about that. I saw shawn on campus today, he walked across my path, but I was juggling my takeout box from welborn and trying to change the song on my ipod, so I didn't see him til he was past me, and I don't know if he saw me or not. i had my really big sunglasses on, so he might not have recognized me, or he might just have been ignoring me. I don't know. Thoughts walker or val?

ok enough rambling to make up for a month of no posts.
