NAME. Ethan Rayne
AGE & D.O.B. 05/02/1991, age seventeen
GRADE. 10th grade on account of being a DIRTY FOREIGNER.
GPA. It'd be higher if he worked harder. I will figure this out when he has actually been attending an American school for a while.
EXTRACURRICULARS. What, do school-related actitivities outside school? Are you high?
DESCRIPTION. Ethan's about six foot and a lanky, pretty sort of boy. He's typically (of the English) pale, with dark eyes and a pointy sort of face. He often appears to be laughing at someone. This is usually because he is.
PICTURE BASE. Dhani Harrison
PERSONALITY. Ethan is...a hedonistic, self-absorbed brat. He's not without his saving graces, but he's generally speaking not very nice. He prefers to only do things if there's something in it for him (the definition of which varies on everything from his mood, time of day to the alignment of the planets), and by god he will remember it if you force him to do something he doesn't want to. He's vindictive, petty, a little spoiled and thoroughly of the opinion that basically everyone in the entire world exists to entertain him. When he does like someone, while he's generally better to them -- it's his definition, not theirs, and sometimes it's actually more annoying to be his friend than to be someone he hates. He's godawful ungracious about it. Not permitted to run rampantly wild in the wake of Randall's death (something he views as a totally acceptable coping strategy for the loss of a friend and being cut off from the rest of them), he's sulky, moody, even more often prone to tantrums and inexplicable behavior. He's lonely, but has a tendency to self-sabotage consciously and unconsciously. He does understand that people don't see things the way he does; he thinks they're stupid. He's ridiculously vain, and has a tendency to fixate.
HISTORY. Ethan is the only child of January Rayne (assume, from her name, that her parents were kind of weird -- you're right, and so is she), a sharply intelligent Englishwoman with an educated interest in the occult and some interesting connections and personal habits. He doesn't know who his father was, and has long since come to the conclusion he also doesn't care. He's grown up being dragged along on his mother's exploits and endeavors, and through her cultivated his own similar interests.
They settled, for a brief period, in London. They remained long enough that Ethan started attending an actual school, as opposed to homeschooling, and he started making friends outside the social circles he was exposed to by Ms Rayne. Ethan developed his tendency towards hedonism with the opportunities staying in one place offered him, and unfortunately, things ended badly. For his sixteenth birthday, Ethan killed his friend.
This isn't quite true, although Randall's parents did at one point try to blame him. The truth is that Ethan is not and will never be entirely sure of what happened that night; there were too many drugs involved for anyone involved to accurately pinpoint the events. He remembers screaming a lot, and he remembers someone holding a knife. He knows he had broken ribs when the fog cleared, and he knows now that the human body contains a lot of blood, or Randall's used to, anyway. He didn't hold the knife, and persuaded the detectives involved in the investigation that any drugs in his bloodstream weren't put there, knowingly, by him. He is, let's face it, pretty enough that claiming someone drugged him for the purposes of taking advantage is not a far out there tale.
He never asked nor was told who, if any of the group, would be prosecuted.
January decided that the time had come to move on, and decided to put a little more distance than usual between her son and his old friends. She persuaded a few people to pull a few strings, and a distant relative on the school board for St Jude's, in Minneapolis, got Ethan enrolled.
FAMILY. January Rayne, mother, late thirties. Deceased grandmother. Bradley McLellan, forties, distant cousin of his mother's.
OTHER. By agreement with his mother, Ethan sticks to cigarettes (and marijuana if he can get it) these days. January keeps him on a tighter leash than she used to, and he rarely manages to skip out on his twice-weekly counselling sessions.
Ethan sometimes makes things happen, when he puts his mind to it. The problem is that he has little to no control over what these things will be, rendering the ability next to useless, and aside from that it's physically exhausting. Theoretically he could refine it over time, but he's seventeen. What do you want from him.
He has a tattoo on his forearm of an odd looking symbol, the origin of which he has a new story for every time he's asked.
MUN NAME. Eliza Doolittle.
