Walks

Because going walking in dry, flammable bush should seem like a really clever idea right now:

Having done a bit of research, I'm currently thinking that a nice walk to do to get started might be Kingfisher Trail in Walyunga National Park. It's an 8.5k loop track through some apparently rather nice terrain. The track time suggests 4 hours, but that must be at a pretty gentle pace and allowing for stops. It's about 40km outside Perth, which isn't too bad.

It'd be best to avoid the peak of the heat, but with a walk of that length it's quite reasonable to tackle it as an afternoon / early evening walk (since daylight holds out so late) which may be easier to organize and more pleasant than morning things.

The area, not that it tells you much.

Timing will have to be determined. Personally I'm good for any weekend, though it looks like Sunday mornings should be ruled out on grounds of sanity and good taste. Saturday afteroons/evenings are pretty good. I can often reschedule work during the week to do other things, but I'm more limited in what I can do if I'll be unable to respond or come in if there's an emergency. I'm largely limited to Monday and Friday in terms of when I can actually afford to be unreachable without causing problems if things do go wrong at work.

The forecast for the coming week is kind of nasty, though this coming Friday and/or Saturday afteroon/evening looks OK. I'd be game, but it'll depend on everyone's schedules and enthusiasm. Rather than wait for folks to read this I'll try to get in touch shortly. Anyway, failing Friday/Saturday, it's pretty much weather and scheduling dependent.
