The endorphins say "hi"

All's well after a bearable day's work followed by windsurfing goodness, a very pleasant wander, and a nice cycle home with pretty things to see on the way.

I feel the effects of the windsurfing ... but oddly, instead of the muscles in my back, shoulders or arms like usual, it's mostly my butt that hurts. Wtf? Sure, everything hurts a little, but that just means I've been doing it right. Anyway, it was hell-windy today with chop that was really fun to bounce over, and I did really rather well (albeit with a smaller sail than usual). Fun!

( BTW, seabreeze.com.au is a vital resource if you're into sailing, windsurfing, fishing, surfing, boating, kitesurfing, etc. )

As if the windsurfing wasn't nice enough, I had some delightful (albeit sniffly :p) company for an extended evening wander before a really pretty cycle home around the foreshore.

I think reality is mocking me for having a crappy camera, though. I passed the new ferris wheel and saw it surrounded by hundreds of gulls spiralling around, underlit by the light it cast. It doesn't sound like much, but it was really quite gorgeous, and would've made a fantastic photo ... if I'd had even my mediocre Panasonic LX2 with me instead of just a 5MP camera phone. Argh! This after being unable to get any photos of the embers glowing in the night in King's Park on the night of the fire (again, way prettier than it sounds), or any good shots of the incredible smoky moon, due to the zoom/angle and sensor noise limitations of the LX2. Sigh. It's time to get a good camera, but one still compact enough to carry everywhere since I often see things that'd make lovely photos at weird times and in unexpected places.

Antibiotic resistance and why it's really important to finish that course of antibiotics. Having grown up with a microbiologist this isn't news to me, but it really needs stressing. More MRSA == bad! . Antibiotics for cold/flu: bad!

Baby sign language appears to be somewhat faddish. The validity of the claims re motor development vs vocal development looks ... unproven. Research is limited. I've heard good anecdotal reports, but who knows how much that means, esp wrt natural parent bias and such. I need to look into it more since now I'm really curious about whether it's actually just a BS fad or not, so I'm going to have to hit some medical journal search sites. Even if it turns out to be mostly a fad, it's probably useful in developmental terms anyway if you teach AusLan.

fun in the sun, windsurfing, photography
