Sometimes quick trumps good

I worked up the enthusiasm to make a rather tasty smoked fish pie (which I'd intended to do on Sat), a potato/cucumber/spinach salad with mint & lime juice, and a proper green salad for dinner tonight. Somehow it ended up taking two and a half hours, though - and while I don't hurry when I cook, that's just absurdly slow.

You know how when you're cooking something that ends up taking a while you land up nibbling the odd thing and by the time you're done cooking you're not really hungry anymore? Oh well - the others got a good dinner, and it's going to be a nice lunch tomorrow.

The minty potato & spinach salad really worked, so that's another thing to remember for later.

Oh: Delightfully, my generally awful ex-boss, who I'm working with this week, is being way less awful than he used to be. He's also sober in the mornings, smells bearable, and is even clean. I may survive the week sane after all.

On a final note: it's a pity they haven't caught the scumbags who set fire to King's Park yet. The damage will fade eventually, and Australian bush is good at recovering, but King's Park has too much uncleared undergrowth etc to just flash-burn so it will have done plenty of harm. Not to mention the fact that it's a small area of quite important habitat for a variety of small animals, has plenty of quite rare plants, and is generally not well suited to recovering from having a large percentage of its rather small area burn in one day. There's also the not inconsiderable risk to the firefighters trying to control the damage.
