Fellow artist & Massart grad,
Gordon Riker passed away last week in a bike accident.
Gordon & I both designed for Distro.Y clothing & had a bunch of classes together.
While we were never close, we talked alot during the time that we lived in the same building, and also when we were working on our designs for the catalogue.
Gordon was really super positive every single time I saw him. He always had something good to say about any project I was working on.
He was one of the nicest people I knew in my time at massart, and I'm unbelievably sad that I never got a chance to know him any better.
When I transferred into Massart, I had a really hard time adjusting at first. Alot of the kids that lived in my building were snobby and mean, and I was a couple years older than all the other people there.
Gordon always made it a point to talk to me every time he ran into me & ask me what I was working on. He asked me advice on how to stencil & he'd give me tips on designing for screenprints.
In a community where you're feeling like you don't fit in, it's a big deal when people make an effort to make you feel welcome. Every single time I interacted with him, my day was made a little better just because he always went out of his way to be nice. I never told him how much it meant to me.

my heart goes out to all his friends & family back east.
to everyone else, if there's someone you know that's made a difference in your life...even if it's been in a small way, let them know how awesome they are.
