Environmental Christian Right!

Christian Right becoming Environmentalists

Finally, it just makes sense. What will this do to their political power? Will it force their elected officials to tame down their actions? It is clearly something at odds of Bush's Clear Skies which allows for more pollution and steps back from the Clean Air act. There are problems with the Clean Air act, but, clearly, not as many as the nasty Clear Skies Act. One example, the Clear Skies act will set back our progress on mercury control for many years. Mercury is a toxin found in many different things (air, fish, water). You know that Mad Hatter? He had mercury poisioning. That's what made him "mad". Anyways, under the Clear Skies Act, mercury will be limited to 26 tons per year by 2010. Under the Clean Air Act, mercury pollution would be limited to 5 tons per year by 2008. Just by sheer numbers, the Clean Air act is 520% better. Mercury is bad, I guess that's why I don't eat a lot of fish. For more information on the health effects of mercury, click here. Go ahead and call me a hippie, I just don't like to harm any future children by putting dangerous mercury in my body (refer to picture from article).

Anyways, let's hope the new actions of the Christian right will do some good for environmental legislation. Yay for God.
