SET #2
timeframe: training
o6 shopping
Tao had a rather unhealthy liking for shopping, especially for a boy who barely had any money.
"Come on, ge, let's go shopping!" he said one Saturday, and Kris glared at the younger. He had way too much enthusiasm for shopping.
"You're broke, Tao," Kris reminded him, not budging from his spot at the kitchen counter as he ate his cheap instant ramen.
"I can still go window-shopping," Tao replied, sticking out his tongue as he leaned over the counter to try to convince the older to accompany him. He hated shopping alone, after all. It was just so... lonely. "And when you're famous, you can come back and buy me stuff."
Kris chuckled despite himself. "Won't you be famous, too?"
Tao shrugged. "You're handsome, ge. You'll get more acting stuff to do, I bet, and modeling shoots. You'll make more money and have more fans, so you'll have more money."
Kris rolled his eyes, even though he couldn't help but smile at the younger's words. 'Handsome.' "Then we can go shopping then and I'll buy you anything you want."
"Really?" Tao asked, sounding excited at the idea.
Kris narrowed his eyes upon seeing the younger's reaction. "One thing," he clarified, hoping to make this very clear. "And it better not be too expensive," he warned, giving Tao a stern look.
But Tao was obviously lost in his own thoughts as he started talking about Gucci and other designer brands.
o7 snacks
For such a skinny boy, Kris learned that Tao ate a lot. The younger often used the excuse that he's "still a growing boy" and he "needed food to fuel his activities". Kris didn't mind that - what he did mind was that Tao ate Kris' food.
"Don't you have your own food?" Kris asked, raising an eyebrow as the younger made a move to grab his pork buns. He didn't stop him, though.
"I ate it all earlier," Tao said, stuffing the food into his mouth as he spoke. Kris cringed at the sight.
"Where does all the food even go?" Kris mumbled, pushing his food away. Watching Tao swallow down his food in a way that seemed rather impossible and inhuman made him lose his appetite.
Tao ignored the question, eyeing Kris' tray. The older sighed, catching on. "Yeah, you can have it," he said, rolling his eyes as Tao yanked the tray his way and started scarfing down the food.
When he was done, he said, "That was a good snack."
Kris couldn't help but laugh.
o8 games
It wasn't that Kris forgot Tao was younger; no, he barely let Kris ever forget that with his constant acts of cuteness. But sometimes he did forget that Tao was just like every other teenager - minus his amazing skills in wushu - and just like all teenager boys (and even some older men), he liked video games.
It was a Sunday, and Tao hadn't showed up at Kris' apartment, begging for food and entertainment, as he tended to. Kris was starting to get suspicious, as he hadn't even gotten a single text from the younger, either, telling him he had training or something. But he wasn't worried - no, Kris didn't get worried.
He thought.
That didn't explain why he pulled on his coat and left his apartment in hopes of finding Tao at the SM building, though. If he wasn't worried, he would've stayed home and watched TV while eating popcorn, or something like that. He wouldn't go out trying to find Tao.
Still, he wasn't worried, so he told himself.
But Tao wasn't at the building, and none of the other trainees said they saw him all day. It wasn't until Kris ran into one of the trainees Tao roomed with - Jongin, a Korean trainee who was younger than Tao but very popular - that he got some answers.
"Yeah, Tao didn't even leave the room today, which is weird because he's usually out the door before noon," Jongin said with a nod.
"So he's at the dorm?"
"Yeah, he -" But the dancer was called in for more practice and had to leave before he could finish explaining, bowing in apology as he did.
Kris' next destination was Tao's shared dorm.
It was a bit spacious, but considering the fact that it was shared with about five or more trainees, it really wasn't that big. One of the trainees - Sehun was his name - answered the door and directed Kris to Tao's room. Kris peeked his head through the door, wondering what had possibly kept the younger away.
He did not find Tao's focused look on the computer screen as he shot away at monsters endearing and adorable in any way. Nope, not at all. (That didn't explain why he watched for a good five minutes before Sehun asked if he wanted anything to eat and Tao finally noticed. That also didn't explain why Kris flushed - and Kris rarely flushed - as he accepted the offer of food, and Tao shot Kris an amused grin on his way out.)
o9 impressions
"You intimidated me the first time we met," Tao admitted one day as the two watched TV, bored and too tired to do much else. Kris raised an eyebrow and glanced over at the younger where he sat a couple of feet away. He was sprawled out on the floor, his shirt scrunched up at the top as he tried to cool down. Summer in Seoul sucked.
"Really?"
"Yes," Tao replied. "You were so handsome and cool, but you seemed so shut off. I wanted to talk to you because you know Mandarin, but I was scared."
"Ah, makes sense as to why you stalked from afar now," Kris teased, and Tao threw a pillow at Kris at an alarmingly fast rate. Kris barely caught it in time before it hit his head.
"Well, it's obvious who has more control now," Tao continued, a grin making its way into his features. Kris looked down at him curiously.
"And who is that?" he asked, amusement lacing his voice.
"Me."
Kris kicked Tao out of his apartment (for about half a minute, as Tao always found a way back in).
10 wushu
Kris knew of Tao's wushu specialty. It was the main talk of the trainees when Tao first arrived, as it wasn't often that someone's specialty was something besides dancing, singing, or rapping, or even modeling, when it came to the idol-business. Still, he never watched the videos concerning Tao's wushu - the ones the trainees (specifically the female ones) gushed over before Tao's arrival.
Even after they became friends, Kris hadn't seen Tao practice wushu. The only Tao he knew of was the one who constantly begged for things and used his cuteness to his advantage.
It was one of those days in the building where the trainees were able to gather and showcase their skills just for the fun of it. Kris rather liked these days - they were more relaxed and he got to see his competition. When he showed up that day, he noticed Tao talking to Lu Han, another Chinese trainee who had the face and voice of an angel.
Kris settled with staying in his own corner of the room, watching and analyzing the others. He recognized a lot of the trainees, but others were new faces with great talent. Yixing, someone Kris trained with for a while now and who was also Chinese, eventually came over to accompany Kris.
Then it was Tao's turn.
Kris wasn't aware that he was holding his breath watching the younger shyly present himself in front of the eyes of fellow trainees. It was kind of tough, honestly. Some trainees were ruthless, wanting to tear down their competition almost as badly as they wanted to become idols. Others were kinder and more helpful, but even those had to keep in mind that every other body in the room was 'an enemy'.
Music began in the background. It was intense, and it caught Kris off-guard for a second. When he finally was able to focus again, Tao was working with a long, wushu stick. He was handling it with ease, his look serious as he continued his performance. When the stick was disregarded, Kris watched as he jumped around and did flips and kicks in such a way that astound Kris.
When it the minute long performance was over, Kris surprised himself when he started clapping. Some others joined in for a while, but it died down soon, as clapping wasn't very often. He caught Tao's smiling eyes, though, from the other side of the room. Tao mouthed a "thank you" and Kris smiled in response.
He finally took in a deep breath. Tao's wushu was kind of breathtaking to Kris.

a/n: Pre-debut drabbles will be in the fourth drabble set... I think. I hope. I don't want to stay stuck in training-era forever xD Pre-debut era, for clarification, begins when the teasers come out, I suppose. Debut drabbles (coming later) will cover from their MAMA debut and onwards ^^ I dunno if this drabble set will last long enough for me to go into any other eras, though, because there will only be twelve sets (sixty drabbles in total)... so yeah. We'll see.
Drabbles are so fun to write. I don't have to worry about a real plot xD Feel free to point out any errors I might have made, as I didn't read this over yet -.-" Thanks for reading, though, and I hope you enjoyed! And oh my gosh I don't even like these drabbles that much OTL maybe they'll be better next time
