I DON'T KNOW THE PROCEDURE FOR THIS, AND I'M TIPSY FROM THE NEY YEAR'S BOOZE BUT TOO EXCITED TO SLEEP SO I'LL WRITE THIS NOW!! :D
I don't know if you're going to read this, Wandersfound, but I'm SO incredibly glad you liked the story I write for you. This was a bit of a big thing for me, not just because it was the first time I'd ever participated in Yuletide (or any fic exchange),but because I almost never post anything I write anywhere. So I was very nervous. Very, very nervous indeed. Thankyou for the kind words.
But anyway, I had an immense amount of fun writing it. I got to make a lot of references to other things that I love- and here they all are, just in case you were interested and/or missed any:
references to stuff in Sonnet 30, in order:
*Sonnet 30- Shakespeare (duh)
*Poppies- Flander’s Fields (does this count? Possibly)
*“We all pay for sex, one way or another. At least whores are honest about the price.”- Cal Lightman, Lie To Me
*“Tully and Socrates entirely, in order to set an example. And, likewise, set aside the stories of Hercules, Achilles, Apollo and Alexander”- homosexual relations in ancient Greece and Rome, and in mythology
*“Which of us is Achilles, and which is Patroclus?”- Ovid (I think)
*“the lusty god embrac'd him, call'd him love ... and steal a kiss ... upon his breast, his thighs, and every limb ... [a]nd talk of love”- Marlowe’s ‘Hero and Leander’
*“Before all this, I wrote my own plays,”- ‘Prick Up Your Ears’
*“I worked for the law, undercover...”- ‘Reservoir Dogs’
*“Once, I was Dracula.”- ‘Dracula’ (duh)
*“I was born on board a boat and I never left it...” ‘Legend of 1900’
*“I think I could be a writer. You could help. We could write together. We could write our own plays.”- ‘Prick Up Your Ears’
*“’Sirius’.”- Harry Potter (lol, duh)
*“Sisyphus,”- Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses’
*“I already know ‘Echo and Narcissus,” - Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses’
*“Actaeon turns into a deer.”- Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses’
*“’A lovely boy in Dian’s shape... One like Actaeon, peeping through the grove...’”, “’...and seem to die.’”- Marlowe’s ‘Edward II’
*“Columbina”- Italy’s Commedia Del Arte
*“His eyes are nothing like the sun, coral is far more red than his lips red, if snow be white, why then, his breast is dun”- sonnet 130, Shakespeare
Anyhoo, happy new year and all the best :)
yuletide,
