>You could put a lotta motorcycles in that. I'm just sayin'.
Hell yes you could. It's 12" wide and 24' long with a 10' ceiling height at the front and down to 8' at the back. I found the plans online from ..Colorado's Dept of Ag IIRC. Frankly it's a very well designed simple little structure. Cost was very reasonable and after digging the footings (yeah, 6 of them by fucking hand. Fun fun fun.) it went up pretty easy. Just got the rest of the rafters up today.
The plans do not allow a width greater than 12' without a second row of support beams but .. 12' is wide enough for a garage. I will be building a 2nd one for that purpose in the spring. With a concrete floor.
>So I just looked back in the blog and you seem to be done with the house -- so you just figured, "Fuck it, rest is for the dead" and started immediately on a barn? (What I mean is -- I cannot imagine doing this in December without pressing need, but then again what do I know.)
Alpacas gotta sleep somewhere ; )
It's a bitch but they need some shelter. As of today it's all framed out. The siding is all metal.. screws down fast. Should get it up in another day or so.
They ARE literally bred for warmness and they LAUGH at the PA winter. They literally laugh right in it's weak face. 20 degrees and snow out? You'll find alpacas laying out in the sun like they are on the beach in Florida. The part they don't like is rain ; )
I also need a place to put hay/grain for them where it's not going to get wet. Also in the summer they like the shade.
