these days

My life has changed quite a bit since moving. More in the day to day sense. I am happy being domestic. I think that I tried to fight that for a long time, but have returned to it. They didn't call me the "Domestic Goddess" for nothing. I've also started swimming again. I used to love to swim laps at the Y in Royal Oak, but at one point it became insanely crowded in that little pool. The pool at Dishman is much larger.

Justin and I were supposed to go to Idaho this weekend, but ended up staying in town. Gas is just too expensive, and we have two other trips out of town planned for this month already. We both had Friday off, so we finished unpacking, and headed downtown after I got back from swimming. Sushi, REI, vegan softserve at Blossoming Lotus. It was a good day...until I got the worst migraine I've had in years. I felt terrible. The next day I had no energy and drug myself around the house. Justin went to Salem and got a thundercloud tattooed on the back of his neck to cover his fish.

Sunday, I went to yoga in the morning, and then proceeded with the full-scale domestic attack on the house. I cleaned the hell out of the kitchen and mopped all the floors. I baked vegan chocolate chips cookies which were a huge failure. They managed to be crispy and greasy at the same time. The dough was good, though. Anything with that much oil and sugar has to taste good. Thanks for nothing, Post-Punk Kitchen! To redeem myself I made vegan cornbread muffins. Those came out perfectly. Oh, there was some mad sick grocery shopping in there, too. Justin and I went to Trader Joe's. I forgot how much that place rules. Too bad there are only three in Portland and two are downtown. The other is in Hollywood, so it's not so close, either. Anyway, we got a ton of food for so very little money (well, everything is relative. Even TJ's is much more expensive than it was only a year ago). Later in the evening we rode bikes to Kennedy School to watch Iron Man. I was not digging it until about 45 minutes in when Tony Stark realizes that manufacturing weapons of mass destruction is evil and decides to devote his life to undoing his family legacy. He even threw the peace sign a couple of times. Robert Downey Jr. basically just played himself, minus the obvious cocaine usage.

It was actually a very good movie. I think it may be one of the best to come out of Marvel whoring themselves to Hollywood.

I went swimming again this morning and got to work way too early. I should have brought my copy of the Cider House Rules to read. This is going to be a long and boring day. Per usual.

iron man, domestic skillz, weekend
