School is wonderful. I'm so glad to be back. All my classes are perfect and my teachers are perfect and the school has changed so much I can't even imagine it being the same place it was last year and that's perfect too because change is good no matter what anyone says.
My government teacher, Mr. Montanez, didn't even hand out our syllabus today. He just started talking about how conservative George Bush is and went on about abortion and gay marriage and things like that. It was a little awkward for me, even in a classroom full of a bunch of other kids. This is some sort of how it went: "George Bush says no abortion whatsoever in any shape or form, so then a girl gets raped and she's expected to carry her rapist's baby for nine months because she's not allowed to have an abortion. And sometimes the teenage girls-- they get pregnant and there's nothing they can do. You've got plans for your life and there's no plan for a baby, but there's your belly, getting bigger every day. And gay marriage-- who cares if they want to get married. They're living together and it's no secret what they're doing, so who cares if they have a piece of paper."
It was pretty obvious he wanted Bush to die.
After some more of this he went on about the government and why it's so important for young people to stop being ignorant because we're the future. Now he's talking pretty slowly and that makes it kind of funny because he keeps making hand gestures that don't really add to what he's explaining. Once he asked a rhetorical question (I don't remember what it was) and then got really silent, raised his hand and started rubbing a few of his fingers together. His eyes are really big now, and then, out of nowhere he says, "It's called insurance."
Later during another speech about how we needed a government in order to maintain control (specifically legal control), I suggested that we wouldn't need a government if everyone was on their honor to do the right thing. Of course, what I meant was that it would work if everyone respected the honor code, but it was too late. He asked me to come up to the front of the room and then told this gigantic Spanish guy to come and stand next to me, and then he imitated me telling the Spanish guy that he ought to have honor.
Anyway, I like Mr. Montanez. Great class. It should be pretty entertaiing.
Outside of school, life sucks. But there are some things I can't just be going and telling everyone about.
I can't wait to go back to school tomorrow.
