I will most likely post journals after this one referring to events preceding this date. They will appear chronologically.
On Wednesday (1.23.08) Tonia drove me up to IAH airport where I met up with George. We headed for our show in Salt Lake City with a lay over in Phoenix, AZ. The second leg of the trip had a bit more impact on me than the first but overall I did fine. We arrived at Salt Lake City Int'l and George received a call from our hotel just as he turned his phone back on in the plane about his friend Adrian checking into our room. Adrian is an old college buddy of George's that happens to live in Sun Valley, Idaho. He drove down to visit and catch our show. George had the hotel let him in where he would be catching ZZZ's in his sleeping bag on the floor for the next three nights...
In the terminal we were greeted by the Dreamland promoter that brought us out (Aaron B.) as well as one of the DJs on the crew roster - Justin (DJ Odix). They noticed I wasn't feeling too well and asked if the turbulence roughed me up... I explained that it seemed to be the quick change in altitude that has the most impact. I noticed that Aaron's fly was undone and motioned at his pants, "speaking of altitude..." Justin laughed and Aaron quickly looked around and zipped up. I went on to tell them that they'd have plenty of opportunity to see me at my worst and jokingly warned them I was likely to show up with my pants inside out - and that I may need their help in protecting me from myself. As George and I continued with an endless barrage of goofball jokes, Aaron and Justin slowly started to feel more comfortable with laughing and engaging us. Most promoters generally keep their guard up as sometimes the artists booked can bee in a rotten mood from traveling or just suffering from a diva complex. George and I tore into each other, made self-depricating jokes and even pretended to hit on the hispanic cashier at the car rental desk. George rented an H3 despite my protests and Aaron and Justin resolved to meet us at the hotel to hang out for a while.
We got to the hotel which was only a few minutes down the road from the airport and unloaded our gear... Adrian and George greeted each other and I was introduced. Aaron and Justin showed up and ended up staying until 5am. We told them about a number of exploits on the road playing in different states and they gave us a breakdown of their local dancefloor scene as well as info on the peculiar stranglehold the Mormon Church has on the city and infrastructure. I woke up the next morning around 10am and just relaxed while waiting for George and Adrian to wake up.
