an ordinary day in march
we prayed for a reprieve
and the indulgent clouds obliged
waged war against the greying skies
their will: a world engulfed in white
in which all motion ceased except
my feet tracing a novel line
to your front door for the first time
the borrowed time, a constant flow
despite the frozen air
it held so little weight back then
when fog obscured an aching end
and words that now can slice my skin
i said them with a smile
still ignorant of nights untold
the crushing pain that they would hold
but even as i spoke those words
i toed the eon’s edge
my eyes were opened up to see
a breathtaking eternity
today the sky turned opaline
unleashed its frozen core
the world ambiguous in snow
reminds me of another home
the blinding sunlight stung my eyes
and now i understand
that pain is simply imminent
when life reflects love’s radiance
