Sadly no, it's a reference to the colors that are used to show Democrat or Republican victories or strength. Red = Republican which more or less means conservative and Blue =Democrats.

I think I'm going to print some VOTE posters for work. The college has done intensive voter registration and we want the students to vote--just vote we don't try to influence them unless it's funding for public education--obviously we're in favor of that.
I think that's a great idea. You might also encourage them to check their registration between now and Nov. 4th. There are a number of places to do that, including voteforchange.com
Red state: does that mean a leftist state? As in red, the socialist/communist colour? Or is this colour symbolism different in the United Ones?
