Char2d2 • I Don't Mind That You Stole My Heart

Sounds like: Stars, Rachael Cantu, Tegan and Sara

There’s just something about Canadian musicians that does it for me. Not only do they ooze cool, but their lyrics drip with the raw emotion of the kill. Time and again they sweep in, under the radio’s radar, to steal my heart, tear it up, stitch it back together and return it lovingly to my chest.

Char2d2 is yet another one of these damn Canadian heart wrenchers I love so much. Charla McCutcheon (from indie pop band Bella) left her hometown of Vancouver, flew to Paris and came back with a Parisian haircut and some new songs, which would go on to make up her debut EP Small Vampires.

Fellow Vancouverite Tegan Quin (of Tegan & Sara) produced it, crafting the EP into a delicious slice of indie acoustic pop goodness. And another heart wrencher was born.

My only foible with the Small Vampires EP is that it’s just not long enough. 6 songs (two of which are under 2 minutes long) may be short and sweet for some, but I prefer my heartache in big doses. Not that the EP is depressing - far from it! It leaves the listener with a belly full of butterflies and the glimmer of hope that you feel at the start of a new relationship. I can only hope that Char2d2 will stick around for longer next time.
