"They're asking us to leave, Draco," A cool voice behind the Malfoy said. He gazed, amused, at the distressed wizard. He resisted the urge to share the chagrin--the bells were very annoying. "I have no other information, least of all whether or not to trust our kind overlords, but I think this is legitimate. I'm going to do some philanthropic Gryffindor foolishness and make sure everyone gets out OK."

Remus leaned down and picked up Draco's book, then handed it to him.

At the sound of Lupin's voice behind him, Draco had turned and unclapped a hand from one ear to glare angrily in his ex-professor's direction instead, as if all this were somehow Lupin's fault.

"So you think there really might be some kind of danger, and instead of going away from it, you're going towards it?" Draco sneered. "Typical."

As Lupin held out the book, Draco snatched it from him. "It's a wonder the bloody lot of you don't all get killed," he muttered. Then, remembering that actually, he didn't especially want Lupin, one of the few other people from universe, to get killed, Draco paused.

"Are you sure you need to do anything?" he asked, feigning casualness. "It's not like anyone is going to not hear the bloody thing, and they'll all probably leave if only to get away from it ..."

Remus smiled at Draco.

"There are children here, and...idiots," Remus said, for lack of a better word. Loud bells made it hard to think. "But everyone deserves a chance at life, so yes, I'm going to make sure everyone gets out alright, not trampled or flattened."

Draco made a face. Damn Lupin for reminding him what the right thing to do would be. No wonder so many wizards went evil, being good was such hard work.

"... Do you need any help?" he reluctantly asked.

"Yes, as a matter of fact. Do you know anyone who'd be willing to lend a hand?" Remus teased. He was really fond of this new Draco, who was so unfamiliar in a distinctly Draco way. Of course, he'd rather Draco get to safety as soon as possible, but he figured there was enough time to tease him. Rule 6 of being a Marauder: There was always time to tease Slytherins.

After his recent misadventure with John Connor and Tycho, being told he was useless, even if it was friendly teasing, rankled Draco deeply. Plus, he still just couldn't quite accept Gryffendors treating him with kindness yet.

"Fine," he spit out. "I'll go see if I can be useful elsewhere."

He turned to go.

Remus sighed, trying to undo his mistake. "Draco," he said in his firm teacher voice. "You either stay with me or you get yourself to safety."

"What," Draco spun around, his voice nasty, "You my parent now? I'll have you know I've done quite fine with the useless ones I already have."

"Besides," he continued a little grudgingly, "I was going to go ... check on Luna. She probably couldn't evacuate her way out of a broom closet on her own." There was a bit of a smirk, but did it look almost ... fond? No, couldn't be. Regardless, the emotion was quickly replaced by seriousness, as Draco put his wand in the palm of his hand, and muttered a quick locator spell. The wand swung like the needle of a compass, before settling on what Luna's direction must be.

"I don't doubt that," Remus muttered quietly.

"That's very kind of you, Draco," Remus didn't bother to mention that, if he was heading off to check on Luna, he should have checked the direction before departing. "When we find her, I can trust that you'll escort Miss Lovegood out to safety, yes?"

Draco chose to ignore any muttered comments he may or may not have heard over the blaring sirens. "Whatever." He affected disinterest, waving a hand. "It would just be ... kind of lame if one of the 4 only people here from my world went and got themselves killed ..." If Remus was looking closely, he might have noticed Draco's normally pale features growing even more pale as the potential cost of this latest catastrophe suddenly occurred to him.

"Yeah sure, whatever dad," he muttered, but his attention was clearly elsewhere. "Common, enough time wasting, let's gooo." He took off at a jog in the direction his wand was pointing in.
