when; uh idk nowish?
where; sawyer's room
notes; slowtime because i'm about to go pass out for the night, but i wanted to get it up.

It was entirely possible he was throwing a tantrum in his own room, but it wasn't really like Sawyer to deprive Kate of his tantrums because of her; )

Stupid damn vampires.

Babysitting some freak vampire with a soul hadn't been a part of this deal. Kidnapping, fine. He hadn't had much of a taste for it, but the thing wasn't even human. Could hardly be called kidnappingMore like theft ( ... )

When there wasn't an answer she frowned, trying the handle of the door. Not surprised that it was locked, but not one to be deterred either, she slid down into a crouching position and pulled out the pins she had holding her hair back, sticking them in the lock mechanism.

Logically any other person would just assume that the occupant of the room was either out for the moment or didn't wish to be bothered, but Kate knew if Sawyer was out he'd come back eventually, and if he wasn't answering her he was mad at her for running off without him. Any way she cut it, breaking into his room was just the easiest path ( ... )

One eye swelled shut, the other, he could just barely peek through, up at Kate. "Mmmphph." In his mind, it had been "freckles," but between the gag in his mouth and his injuries, it took too much effort to form words.

She was safe.

His body slumped forward, passed out cold.

Kate had located the padlock holding the chains in place as Sawyer slumped forward, tightening the slack in the chains and she frowned leaning over to tell him to lean back because he was just going to hurt himself more when she noticed he'd fallen unconcious.

"Hey hey hey hey hey-" She quickly moved back over in front of him, reaching out and cupping his face in her hands. A fairly pointless gesture in an attempt to get him to wake up, but it wasn't like she could slap him awake. "James! James! Damn it." She let him go, moving back to the lock and stumbled through picking it, scooting quickly back in front of Sawyer again and pulling the chains off, shifting so that he fell against her shoulder as the chains fell away.

He was a great deal bigger than she was, but she managed to get him to his bed and then she went for the bathroom, raiding his cabinet for bandages.

Distantly, he could hear someone shuffling around in the cabinets. He squinted through the one eye he could almost see out of, still in-between asleep and awake.

He tried to speak, but coughed. What was going on? Kate. He remembered Kate. He couldn't move, and Kate was there. Locke. Locke was going to be back in a minute, and Kate had better get out of there before he...no. The ceiling was wrong.

Damn.

This wasn't the island, and for the first time, he was disappointed about it.

"Kate."

Kate heard him speak her name and she shut the cabinet door, picking up everything she'd found and moved back to the room Sawyer was in, setting the gauze and bottle of disinfectant on the bedside table. She crouched down next to him unscrewing the cap on the disinfectant and pouring it over the towel she'd grabbed on her way back in. Hopefully it was clean.

"What did you get yourself into this time?" She sighed, leaning up to dab at the wounds on his face, not bothering to warn him that it'd probably sting. He could figure that out on his own. She'd probably need an ice pack, but she doubted he kept those in his room, she'd probably have to make a run to the infirmary.

"...vampires," he mumbled, still lingering between consciousness and the sleep of the heavily beaten. He flinched as she dabbed at his wounds, pulling away. "Ow," but he knew she wasn't going to let him get away that easily. And anyway, there was no use. Not gonna live through a plane crash, getting shot, tortured, thrown in some military base, tortured again, and then die from an infected cut on his forehead.

A thought suddenly struck him. He looked up at her, or the general direction of her at least, as he could only make out her vague form through the swelling.

"You find the way out?"

When he shifted away from her she just repositioned herself, lifting up from the crouch and settling herself next to him on the edge of the bed. No matter which way he moved now he couldn't escape her. She'd given him a brief look at the word 'vampires' but it wasn't like he'd actually be able to see it, and she passed over vocalizing it for the moment. She knew there were vampires around, though.

The other topic though, she addressed, with a slight nod. "There's one way out I've found so far, but it's guarded. Like every other exit, I'd guess." If there even were other exits. It was fairly impossible to tell.

"Well, then. Give me a day or two to heal up, and we'll go un-guard it. I've already had just about enough of this place." He wasn't sure where it was he wanted to go, but anywhere that didn't involve vampire soap operas was better than this. Except the island. If it was between the base and the island, he'd take vampires over Jack.

Kate sighed, reaching down to gently brush some of Sawyer's hair away from sticking to his face, following with the towel in her other hand. "You think you can handle army boys with guns better than whoever chained you to your own refrigerator?"

She knew he probably could, and she was more than willing to let him because short of the matter was she wanted out. Even if she wasn't convicted of murder here, they were still basically prisoners of the government. That just didn't sit well with her, ever.
