Hip Hip Horray!

Oct 14, 2005 05:42

I went to visit my new surgeon yesterday and got a surgery date of November 29th, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. So (once again), the countdown begins.

Can't wait to get rid of this bum hip and get back to what life's all about - riding roller coasters!

Hi - I'm 5 weeks out and am doing great! I had minimal incision anterior approach with metal on metal prosthesis. I was weight bearing as tolerated from day one (although I didn't get out of bed until day 2 1/2). There was a lot of pain the first few days, but I got a shot of Dilaudid every 3 hours so I basically dozed on and off all day.

I was in the hospital 3 days, and in rehab for 12. I am currently using a cane, but can walk a little without it (my leg is still weak). There is some pain, especially after physical therapy. I can sleep on my operated side for about half an hour before it starts to hurt.

Thanks for the reply - if you need any info, feel free to email me.

Do you know about the "Totally Hip" support group? Loads of info and friendly people. The addy is http://members.tripod.com/totallyhip1/index1.htm I learned so much about hip replacements there, it made this whole journey much easier. Good luck to you - you'll be feeling better before you know it! I'm very happy I had the surgery, and am planning on having the other one done in the Spring.
