the matrix: rejected

if a breed of humanity was smart enough to get away from a machine takeover and last hundreds of years underground without being discovered, why aren’t they smart enough to dress themselves decently or live in any sort of modern/technologically advanced environment? it doesn't make sense that their computers look like they were built in the early 70s and their tunics look like they were made in the dark ages. and if you begin to argue that there recourses were few, then tell me where they got those giant glowing lightning spheres that were attached to the nebekenezer or (although visually pleasing) the huge white room with transparent computer screens that the gate operators of zion hung out in.

the twins, on another note, were totally unnecessary. there powers took the eerie-techno-takeover feeling from the first movie and turned it into a supernatural x-men 2 rip off for the second. the architect’s ranting was so hard to follow that i was surprised neo’s head didn’t explode. and the whole deal with the power supply to that building and midnight and whatnot made absolutely no sense. they should have spent more time explaining that and less time showing tacky sex (backed by lame afro-techno crap played by pseudo-bohemian rioters in a badly-animated and utterly nonsensical cave) or neo fighting 200 agent smiths, which happened more then 3 times throughout the movie.

naturally, i wasn’t expecting exceptional dialogue, based on the lack there of in the first movie. but honestly. morpheus had some of the worst lines ever written that he used ironically in a bizarre attempt to make the zion-ites exited about war with robots. and neo and trinity’s love babble was so trite and watered down that i could feel a stronger connection between the myself and the popcorn i was eating then i did between those two terrible actors.

all i can say is that i hope revolutions makes up for this giant disappointment.
