spring break part deuce

johnny organized the entire trip from start to finish and it was a very cool trip :) thanks johnny!
i got kind of sick during the boat ride there and i wanted to throw up :( luckily i sort of fell asleep during the last 10 minutes but i woke up feeling very nauseated and sleepy nonetheless. i've been to catalina twice but both times were from a cruise so i've never really stayed there that long. we walked to the hotel from the dock and it took us less than 10 minutes. as we entered into our hotel rooms we got the first laugh of the trip. the rooms were exceedingly small, jon and i had a queen bed and there was barely enough space to walk. there was one window and the view consisted of a torn building and sewage pipes. the hotel was very clean though, there was nothing unpleasant. it was just particularly small. our room was right across the hall from johnny's and upstairs from henry and anthony's. after settling, we went downstairs to visit their room because they told us we wouldn't believe how bad their room is compared to ours (they have a two twin bed room). well, the door was small so we had to enter in one at a time. as i caught a glimpse of the inside, i saw something that looked like a backing for a couch and i thought to myself why would they be complaining if they have couches! as soon as i walked in i realized that it wasn't a couch at all. in fact, it was their bed. we all had a good laugh for about 5 minutes. it was SO hilarious!! the room literally looked like my dorm room at ucla and i live in the tiniest res hall room there is! the tv was like a 9" tv with a vcr on top of a mini fridge. it seriously could not have been more funny. apparently everyone thought it was a couch before realizing that was their bed. later, we decided to roam around the city a bit and grab a bite to eat. we ate and went back up to johnnys room to do some research about what to do there. johnny and jon made several inquiries and we ended up going with kayaking and snorkeling because it was more affordable. one conversation jon had with the receptionist (when we wanted to ask about parasailing) went something like this:

jon: hi, i'm interested in parasailing. what are your rates?
receptionist lady: its $70 for 10 minutes
jon: oh okay, thank you.
receptionist lady: would you like more information about it?
jon: its okay, i'm not that interested anymore.

LOL. $70 for 10 minutes, $7 a minute. hhahaha. his phone convo was very funny though. the receptionist lady laughed cuz she knew we were ghetto. the rest of the trip we compared everything to the cost of parasailing. like 'oh this burger cost $7, thats ONE minute of parasailing!' lol, maybe its funnier if u were there. anyway, the deal we got for kayaking and snorkeling was pretty sweet.. $32 for snorkeling and kayaking for 4 hours and it includes all gear. we made the reservation for the next day, so the rest of the day we found this mini golf place and kind of chilled there for a while. the minigolf course was actually a very charming place. it was managed by this 100 year old man surrounded by sleeping animals. haha okay maybe the guy wasn't 100 but he must've been at least 80. he was such a sweet little old man though. when everyone was playing the first hole, i pussied out cuz i was really sleepy and i asked the guy for a refund. he was like 'up drinking all night, eh?' and happily gave me my money back. i felt kind of bad afterwards, like taking candy from a baby. maybe i should've just let it go. i dont really remember what we did afterwards, i just remembered that i was still really drowsy from those motion sickness pills i took and went to sleep. i guess we took naps and woke up to get dinner and beer. avalon is seriously a place for old people, the town sleeps by 10 pm. all the stores close like at 6 or 7, restaurants close at 9 and everything is dead by 10. so jon went to buy 5 cases of beer to get us through the night. we wanted to do a power hour, i've never done it before and i used to have pretty good tolerance so i didn't think much of it. well, its not nearly as easy as it seems. one shot of beer per minute and it was pretty damn relentless. i finished one beer and was done. the girls had one beer and the guys had more, don't know how many but henry fong was as red as an apple (see facebook pix) it was actually pretty funny because he was fairly buzzed and started talking about his love life and smiling alot. henry fong always smiles but he was happier than usual. we were watching 'sex is zero' (a korean 'american pie'-like movie) while drinking. its good, watch it!
so on day 2 we went snorkeling and kayaking. we had to put on these ridiculously tight wet suits on. you wont find a documented picture of me in a wet suit because i look exceptionally hideous but you'll find everyone else in my facebook album. i spare you the horror. we also had to put on these life jackets that smelled SO BAD. i dont know if they've ever been washed after all that buildup of sea water and BO. it was very very unpleasant but i guess olfactory fatigue eventually helped a bit. we brought sandwich material and drinks to eat on a cove after we kayak. kayaking was so fun! if i didn't have to smell that nasty life vest, it would've been so refreshing to be out there. it still was, just not as nice.. you know what i mean. :) yeah, kayaking was very very cool. we joined our boats together and tried to form a triangle around the reef, it was a hilarious effort but we didn't see any fish. i kind of pussied out of snorkeling because i was scared of deep waters. im not making excuses for myself, i'm just a pussy in general. all the coves we landed on were rocky shores and all the rocks had these barnacles on them and ALOT of crawling bugs. it was so disgusting. really really disgusting actually. but no one complained so i tried to keep it to myself. i'm feeling a little sick thinking about it. *shudders* okay enough about that. i ended the day with a LONG shower, and we all went to get chinese food. everyone was hella tired after the rigorous activities so we slept early. day 3 was spent just hanging out since we didn't want to spend anymore money. we checked out at 11am and spent part of the day shopping for souvenirs and taking over the hotel patio to play cards and eat crushed up ramen. like i said, we didn't want to spend money so people used their body parts for stakes. at first the guys bet their man boobies and shafts and it eventually escalated to jon's blackness and anthony's essence. whatever the hell it means. by 5 we were on our way back to the dock. lorna realized she lost her phone after we got there so she and johnny ran back to find it. they didn't find it and filed a form with the police. i didn't think she would get it back if someone else had already found it but two days later johnny got a call from them and someone had actually turned it in! it would prob not happen around here. *deep breath* this concludes my uber long entry about catalina. we miss you christine!! alot!!
