Sorry kids, I am too sleepy for proofing hds_beltane submissions or doing any of the things I need to get done, so I'm futzing about with semi-productive procrastination.
Since I was on AO3 posting my fic, I figured I'd look at my stats (because I think you all know by now how much I love the AO3 stats) and do the AO3 meme that was floating about my flist a week or so back, where you post the top ten by hit count. Keep in mind that I have a grand total of 21 fics across about 5 different fandoms, so the top ten is a lot of them, and there are factors like HP not reading so much on AO3 because it has its own archives.
[AO3 Meme] 1. When Opportunity Knocks - 2869 (White Collar/Doctor Who crossover) - This one was always going to get a better start in life by having been inspired and therefore linked by copperbadge, who is very good about linking things that he has inspired, and has a comically large readership. 2. Old Habits - 1039 (White Collar) - I can only imagine that this has been recced somewhere. Also, it's PWP. 3. Lessons Learned - 659 (White Collar) - Likewise, a PWP 4. Five Days In Which All Was Once Lost - 402 (Harry Potter/Torchwood crossover) 5. Aftermath of Battle - 315 (Merlin) - Oh hey, PWP. :oD 6. The Price - 296 (White Collar) - OK, this one's kind of interesting in terms of its popularity. It's gen, with an OC, and no summary. I have no explanation. Although I'm dead chuffed, because I really like it as a piece. 7. Nothing To Worry About - 259 (Torchwood) - I have no idea what this is doing here. That is very nearly as many hits as it has words. 8. Under Glass - 257 (Merlin) - Huh. I think this one might just be an instance of 'Merlin fandom reads on AO3'? 9. Who Says Romance Is Dead? - 250 (Doctor Who) 10. Autumn Leaves - 243 (White Collar) - Another White Collar episode tag. This one's gen (with implied former threesome) about a secondary character who is an older woman of colour. Fandom, sometimes I love you.
So that's some of my assumptions challenged. PWPs and Crossovers tend to be popular, but other things can sneak in there. The fandom may be a factor, but two gen episode tags rate significantly more hits than H/D porn and Torchwood smut.
