CHARACTER NAME | Thetis
CHARACTER SERIES | Mega Man ZX Advent
CANON POINT | Post-game, including the secret ending. He’s from Grey’s story, so he doesn’t know Ashe.
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING | Edge Punisher. There’s no real equivalent of his halberd, and while water is his domain, all of his abilities are ice-based. However, I imagine that if he picked up the game and looked through the classes and happened to see a broadsword with a chainsaw on it, he’d need to change his shorts, so. Edge Punisher.

That doesn’t really help much for Thetis’ backstory though. Canon for this game is really sketchy and vague because lol shootan robuts gaem who needs a plot, so sorry if this doesn’t make much sense.

Thetis is a Reploid. Originally, Reploids were robots given full sentience and human thought through the technology used to bestow these on Mega Man X, but over time, they have essentially become humans made of metal and various synthetic materials. The game’s script is somewhat ambiguous as to whether he’s a Reploid or a human, but I’m going with Reploid because of that spiffy red triangle on his forehead that non-Reploids don’t seem to have.

At birth, all humans are required to be brought in to Legion headquarters so they can be given cybernetic implants to place them on the same physical level as Reploids, while Reploids are brought in to be given a date of death so they won’t be immortal. These regulations were implemented by three wise men in order to ensure equality between Reploids and humans, and therefore, peace. These three became known as the Sage Trinity: Thomas, Albert, and Mikhail.

Biometal is essentially an object that holds the knowledge and memories of a person. Six Biometals were created by the scientist Ciel based on X, Zero, and the Four Guardians of the Mega Man Zero series, while Model A (who does not have Albert’s personality, instead containing data specifically recorded to inform the user) and the mass-produced Model W (created from Dr. Weil, an antagonist of that same series) were created by Albert. Someone who is a Biometal’s Biomatch can merge with the Biometal to become a Mega Man, giving them new a new appearance, armor and weapons, and powers.

Thetis, along with three others, was found to be a Biomatch when he was brought in to Legion Headquarters nearly five years ago when Legion was established; he was naturally attuned to Model L. Albert, the evil one (to put it bluntly) kept this information to himself, did not assign Thetis a date of expiration, and Thetis grew up fairly normal in every aspect but his love of the water and aquatic life, and his eventual resentment of people for polluting the world’s waters.

More recently in the timeline, Prometheus and Pandora (two Reploids who serve Albert) broke into Guardian Headquarters where four of the six Biometals were being kept. They distributed them to Albert’s chosen ones, explaining to them the Game of Destiny in which Mega Men fought each other. The winner of the Game of Destiny would be the one with the power to control the entire world. Somehow, the four Mega Men met, and strangely enough, became comrades of a sort, choosing to assemble the scattered pieces of Model W as a team rather than to tear at each other’s throats before the power they sought was concentrated.

Meanwhile, Grey woke up, and the main plot of the game was set into motion. Blah blah Model A blah blah amnesia blah blah irrelevant to Thetis until the two of them met. Thetis was surprised that Model A can’t much older than he is, then he and Atlas (the holder of Model F) teleported away. He didn’t meet Grey again until later when Thetis attacked a highway, creating fear for Model W to feed on so it could be activated. He tried to explain his point of view to Grey, who was predictably naïve and idealistic, so they fought, and the usually indestructible in the water Thetis was trounced. Oh snap. But he still escaped with Model W, so no harm done.

They didn’t meet again again until much later when every part of Model W had been retrieved and energized, combining to form the sky fortress Ouroboros. Grey had advanced through every part of the fortress in order to confront the openly-evil Albert, but was stopped by the four Mega Men. Unfortunately for them, Grey’s new buddy Ashe jumped in to distract them. She was tough, but she still couldn’t take on all four of them working in tandem. However, Model Z (one of her two Biometals, the cheater) split from her, using deus ex machina to somehow render the Biometals unsuitable for merging with people, essentially crippling them as the fortress blew up because Grey killed Albert. No further explanation required.

Except that they weren’t dead. The four somehow survived, whether through their own cunning or intervention from their new benefactor, Thomas. It was revealed in the secret ending that he agreed with Albert’s philosophy that the world needed to be reset, but did not like Albert’s methodology, so he orchestrated events that he would be destroyed by Model A. It’s before he’s issued any new orders that he finds himself in The World.

PERSONALITY | Thetis wants to save the whales. His entire life, he has loved all sorts of bodies of water; rivers, seas, oceans, it doesn’t matter. If it’s wet, it’s alright in his book. However, he takes this environmentalism to an extreme. He used to protest and join in clean-up efforts or organize his own, but having realized the futility of such small-scale actions in comparison to the tons of waste that were dumped into the sea, and being given an opportunity to rule, he’s changed his aspiration to that. However, he’s still very environmentally conscious on his own scale.

Thetis presents a very happy-go-lucky front to the rest of the world, and is viewed as a model citizen by most who know him as Thetis, that nice boy who likes swimming. However, while it is his natural disposition in a way, it’s also a very convenient method of hiding his other aspects. He’s a very playful person, but there’s a fine line between the charming playful he normally adopts and the hysterical, bordering on psychotic playful he’s pushed to when it boils down to a serious conflict.

Despite not holding the same hatred for his family that he would for most people, he doesn’t particularly care about them either, and if they stood in his way, he wouldn’t hesitate to strike them down. He believes that it’s not right to indiscriminately protect life, choosing to save what can be fixed and destroy the rest. This philosophy may clash with his actions of indiscriminate murder a little bit, but it can be chalked up to a belief that sacrifices are necessary, and if they took the time to find only the worst of people to give up to Model W, they’d be spending time looking that needed to be spent on Model W.

As with most people around his age, there’s a healthy mix of mature and immature traits. He’s highly intelligent and has no problem comprehending environmental papers written by experts, he’s cunning enough to maintain a double life without incident, and cynical enough to murder without a burden on his conscience. However, when his more negative emotions are triggered, he flies off the handle. As well, he’s an obnoxious brat in general, taking pleasure from annoying people and causing them pain; he has a vindictive streak that almost borders on sadism.

Outside of aquatic creatures, his best friends are the other three Mega Men chosen by Albert. While they’re supposed to kill each other and are all fucked up in their own special ways, they’ve bonded remarkably well for one obnoxious kid and three loners. He’s closest to Atlas, though he’s not quite sure if he’s any fonder of her than he is of Siarnaq and Aeolus, or if they’ve simply spent more time together. He’s not very close to Prometheus and Pandora, who mostly seem to want to kill everyone for no reason, which manages a rating of creepy even in Thetis’ book. He respected Master Albert for his cunning, but now that he realizes Master Thomas is even more of a manipulative bastard, that respect has been transferred over to him and magnified. He hates Grey for his stupid idealism and refusal to listen, but he wishes he could make Grey listen so it wouldn’t have to be that way between them.
