Brief (around 300 words) personality outline of your character:
Shoutarou describes himself as a 'hard-boiled' detective, trying to project the facade of a man who is cold to the world - too cool to show emotions. In reality, Shoutarou fails at keeping this facade up, and winds up getting emotionally involved in most of his cases, thus causing those who know him well to jokingly refer to him as 'half-boiled'. This desire to be a hard-boiled detective stems from his negligence causing the death of his mentor, private investigator Sokichi Narumi.
Shoutarou has a sharp mind, and is rather emotional and intuitive. He gets very invested in the plights of his clients, as he's pledged to stop anyone who would make his city of Fuuto cry. Seeing anyone who is in trouble start to cry is enough to push Shoutarou over the edge, causing him to go to any length to defend them, even at risk to himself. He's very much a white knight in that sense, eager to come to the aid of others. He's got a great sense of pride - he aims to be a great man, a man worthy of wearing his mentor's fedora, and has recently felt that he's reached that level of worth.
In addition, Shoutarou can get very, very attached to people once he gets to know them well enough, shown by how badly he took his mentor's death as well as how deeply involved he'll get into his cases for his clients. It's also shown by how strong his bond is to Philip, who he has been charged with protecting by Sokichi as he died. He's also rather protective of Akiko, the daughter of Sokichi who came to take over the detective agency sometime shortly after Sokichi's death.
Shoutarou is also an absolute sucker for a pretty woman, abandoning logic and common sense to do all he can to help and/or impress a lady. This includes turning the hard-boiled act up to 11. However, he does it rather obviously, and is himself oblivious to how hamfisted he's being. However, he's yet to get a negative reaction from it from anyone other than Akiko.
Outside of work, Shoutarou is pretty laid-back. He still tries to keep up the hard-boiled demeanor, but like with his work, he fails at it here, too. Most times that he's not doing work, he's usually kicking back in the office, hanging around with Akiko and Philip, or out and about, hanging out with one or more of his local friends. He enjoys detective fiction (of course), and is shown to own a copy of The Long Goodbye. At one point, Akiko gets him into a period drama series about samurai quite by accident. Contrary to his attempts to stay cool, Shoutarou is very animated in the way he expresses himself, almost cartoonish in the way he reacts in extremes to things that shock him or catch him off-guard. He's also got a fondness for ramen.
Brief (around 500 words) history and background of your character OR link to a really good wiki page with their history. In either case, explain where they cut off from the timeline:
Shoutarou has been working to protect the city of Fuuto since he was a child - helping out his friends, and working under mantra of "This city is my garden - I don't want anyone here to cry." At some point while a teenager or young adult - we're not shown when, exactly - he joined up with Sokichi Narumi of the Narumi Detective Agency as his partner, helping to protect Fuuto from Gaia Memory-related crime perpeutuated by the group known as Museum. During this time, Shoutarou was young, immature, impatient, and impulsive. While on a case to take someone from Museum's memory-creation facility, Shoutarou was tasked to stay in one area and wait while Sokichi took care of the Gaia Memory-powered thugs that worked for Museum by fighting them as Kamen Rider Skull. However, Shoutarou saw their target while this was going on, and foolishly pursued that person - who would turn out to be Philip - to try and show Soikichi that he was a capable detective. This resulted in a mishap that transported Philip across the facility, and he had to be retrieved from there. Shoutarou, Sokichi, and Philip were making their escape from the facility when Sokichi was fatally shot. He gave his hat - which Shoutarou had envied while working for him, and was always told that he could not wear one until Sokichi deemed him a man worthy of a hat - to Shoutarou as he died, telling him to protect Philip. Shoutarou protested, saying he wasn't ready, wasn't worthy - Sokichi told him to become a man who was worthy of the hat, then.
In their attempt to run away, Shoutarou and Philip were pinned down by gunfire, and Philip opened up a case that Sokichi had brought to this particular mission - the Double Driver, and its set of six Gaia Memories, and asked Shoutarou if he was willing to "ride with the devil". With no other option available, Shoutarou agreed, and there, the two of them first became Kamen Rider Double.
After this event, Shoutarou became the head of the Narumi Detective Agency and along with Philip, picked up where Sokichi and Shoutarou left off in fighting Gaia Memory-related crime. Some time afterwards, Sokichi's daughter, Akiko came to Fuuto looking for her father. As the legal owner of the agency, she was prepared to evict Shoutarou and Philip, but after getting involved in the first case we see, she decided to stay as their Chief. Over the course of the series, we learn about just how half-boiled Shoutarou is, and how close he and Philip are as partners. Eventually, another Rider joins their team - Terui Ryu, Kamen Rider Accel, a man full of anger and vengance toward the man who killed his family. With the help of the agency and a mysterious benefactor who helps the heroes off and on throughout the series, as well as learning from Shoutarou's half-boiled style of detective work, Terui manages to get his revenge, as well as learn to care about others, and become a nicer person all around. Eventually, the three of them - Shoutarou, Philip, and Terui - manage to bring down Museum, as well as a member of Foundation X, Museum's funding party and prevent Gaia Impact - an event that was intended to reform the Earth as the Museum group saw fit. However, in doing this, Shoutarou lost Philip, who was revealed to be a being of data, and events in the overthrowing of Museum caused him to become unstable, and taking part in Double's last fight with the Foundation X member caused Philip to deteriorate once the transformation was over. After this, Shoutarou heartbrokenly presses on in his detective duties along with Terui and Akiko for close to a year, and this is where he is taken from - the opening scenes of the final episode, one year after Double's last fight.
Sample post (just a general, everyday, puttering-around-the-ship post; please include a snippet of dialogue):
http://testrun-box.livejournal.com/239674.html If the character has magic, mutant, or otherwise metahuman abilities, please explain what they are and outline EXACTLY how they function, as their powers may not work due to the nature of the ship or may need to be limited somehow:
Using a device known as the Lost Driver, Shoutarou can use the Joker Gaia Memory (A Gaia Memory is a small USB drive-like device that grants the user specific powers) to form Kamen Rider Joker. Shoutarou plugs his Joker Gaia Memory in the belt's Memory slot and activates the transformation sequence by pushing the Memory slot away from the center of the buckle.
Shoutarou has two other Gaia Memories on-hand, as well as the Double Driver. The Double Driver is a two-memory version of the Lost Driver that he normally used with Phillip to become Kamen Rider Double. He keeps it on-hand, holding on to a hope that Philip will someday come back.
The Joker Gaia Memory improves Shoutarou's fighting capability in hand-to-hand combat, and grants the ability to do an energy-enhanced flying kick and high-powered punch Maximum Drive. If used with the Double Driver, it gives Double similar fighting capability, enhanced by Philip's Soul Memories, which enhance the abilities of Shoutarou's other two memories as well.
The Metal Gaia Memory improves Double's defense and strength while sacrificing speed, granting Double an etendable metal staff for melee combat. The staff has a Maximum Drive slot in it.
Trigger: This Gaia Memory gives Double a pistol for ranged combat, while high on power, it's low on defense. The pistol has a Maximum Drive slot, and the memory used with it determines the kind of projectile fired.
In theory, Shoutarou could use the Metal and Trigger memories with the Lost Driver to become Kamen Rider Metal or Trigger, but he's never shown doing so.
Non-superhuman special abilities of note (Is your character a master ventriloquist? A naturally-occurring super-genius? The best martial artist in the world? Say so here): Shoutarou is shown to have a good grasp of hand-to-hand combat, as well as being able to work out tactics on the fly, as in the penultimate episode of the series, Shoutarou faced off with the final big bad of the series (Utopia Dopant) with nothing but his wits and a small collection of gadget robots. Shoutarou managed to reasonably damage the Utopia Dopant and blow up the laboratory he was working in. In this instance, though, Shoutarou was pushed to the edge by his guilt and fear of losing his partner, Philip.
Shoutarou also carries a cellular phone that is capable of transforming into a robotic beetle when a Giji Memory, an artificial Gaia Memory is loaded into it. It's capable of picking up video signals, as well as being used with the Trigger and Metal memories for specific Maximum Drives.
