Summary: Mac has been disappearing from work a lot and the team wonder why.
Author's Notes: I wrote this probably more than a year ago and never posted it. It's dedicated and inspired by, a group of Marines from Oceanside, who goddess-loki saw in a Wal-Mart buying $1,500 worth of toys for Toys for Totts.
"Hey, have any of you seen Mac?" Stella asked, poking her head into the break room. Danny and Lindsay shrugged and Hawkes just shook his head.
"I saw him a few hours ago, but not recently," Hawkes said.
"Isn't it his lunch break?" Lindsay asked.
Stella nodded, as she fully entered the room. "Yeah. I was going to ask him if he wanted to get a bite to eat, but he's not in his office and no one else has seen him."
"Seen who?" Adam asked, walking into the break room.
"Mac," Danny said. "You seen him?"
Adam shook his head. "Nope. Not since I dropped off some lab results this morning."
"You know, this isn't the first time Mac has gone missing this week," Lindsay pointed out.
The group was silent for a few moments as they considered this. Mac had indeed disappeared from the lab at least three times in the past week, for about an hour or so. No one knew where he was going and he wasn't exactly keen on sharing where he'd been.
"Maybe he's seeing someone?" Adam offered.
Danny shrugged. "Maybe. Didn't he have coffee with the new Deputy Commissioner a few weeks ago?"
"Yeah, but wouldn't they spend time together away from work?" Hawkes offered.
Just then Flack walked in. "What's everyone standing around for?"
"We're just trying to figure out where Mac went to," Danny answered.
"Easy. Down to the Marine recruiting center on 181st. He's helping out with Toys for Totts."
"Didn't the lab already donate?" Adam asked.
Stella nodded. "We did, but with all the cutbacks it wasn't much of a donation. That must be why Mac is taking off, so he can make up for it."
"Yup." Flack agreed.
"Okay, how is it that you know what he's been up to but we don't?" Danny asked.
"He asked me to help him deliver some toys the other day."
"That's just like him." Lindsay smiled. "I wish he would have let us know what he was doing. We could have helped."
"You know how Mac is," Stella said. "He probably didn't want to take the spotlight away from the kids. They're the reason why he's doing this, not so he can get all the glory."
The group all nodded in agreement.
