i said: i still wish to be different, but differently different, lean and quick like a panther. never sticks and stones, never hollow bones. my legs are thick because they are strong, and they can be fast and sure. ... and i am learning day by day ... to love this body that is mine. and i bathe all my cells in enough water, and i feed my body the good gifts of the earth, and i stretch and grow, stretch and grow, because this is my body and the only one i have. and this is true. my relationship with food has never been better, respecting its origins and accepting its gifts. for food is a gift of the earth, and thank you God, thank you good brown soil, thank you wind and rain and sun for these gifts. i think when we eat more processed & packaged foods than whole foods, we cut ourselves off from the earth. and i believe God made us to be part of the earth, to care for it, to understand and respect this cyclical relationship. the native americans had it right, thanking the plants and animals and using every part of them, never wasting. it is good to eat the fruits of the earth, and good to eat the flesh of the animals, but best to do so with the memory of soil in your mind, the eyes of the animal in your heart. in this earth we take care of one another. we tend to the earth and the animals, we nourish them and give them our love, and in turn they give us their love through sustenance.

and how i wish my family would recycle, i wish i were able to have a garden. i long for farm life just for this connection to the earth. we remove ourselves so far from it. it's okay to sometimes eat food from boxes and bags, but not so much that we forget the beautiful gift of leafy greens and roots, animals who do feel. my yogurt comes from a container but at least it is pure. we should think more about what we eat and how that places us in the cycles of the world. i love what barbara fisher says.

cycle, cycle, cycle. we are cycles and connections. dig your hands into the soil and feel it breathe. fill your lungs with fresh air. learn, and grow, and return to the earth as we are meant to. these are the things i wish for myself. this is how to be beautiful of body---by following the path marked in nature.
