the ocean at deepest night. black black sky cannot be discerned from black black water. only slight starlight illuminates ghosts of wave-crests rolling up onto the shore. in broad daylight with the water running over your ankles you think of how immense this body of water is, but oh in the night, in the deep dark night, the sea is a strange and silent creature that will swallow you whole. you try to imagine boats out on that black water so far away from the sand, but in darkness this thick how can anything survive? all life must be crushed out there in that depth of night, that eerie space of sky and water melting into one engulfing creature. oh the sea at night, dark swallowing beast.
