I know, you're all thinking, "What has Brad been listening to lately?" The answer is not simple.
First, my greatest discovery of this summer, thanks in big part to Dylan, is post-rock. Mostly instrumental bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, and Explosions in the Sky. Godspeed You! Black Emperor has to be my favorite band of late. Most of their songs range from 11-22 minutes long and are a gigantic build up to something amazing. I can't really explain how these nine people can make such music, but they do an it is awe-inspiring.
The new Sigur Ros is good. It's different, very different, from most of their stuff. Where () was suicidal, Takk... is happy and cheerful. It took some getting used to, but I like it.
Reading the reviews in magazines and different websites, I appear to be the only person on earth who thinks that Late Regisration is inferior to The College Dropout. As far as fun hip hop, I like Kanye, and The College Dropout was great for a certain time and place. Late Regisration just seems to have too much filler.
I really like Iron and Wine. There isn't much more to say about this guy, but I really like his stuff.
The new Against Me! is very different. It's not bad, but all I can say is that I hope the majority of their set on the 23rd is from Reinventing Axl Rose and before.
Broken Social Scene is amazing. If you don't know who these guys are, imagine a band that is unimaginable. They are so unique and so innovative that one cannot help but fall in love with them. You Forgot It In People is on my all time favorite albums list.
Radiohead. I fell in love with Radiohead a couple years ago, however I don't think I really appreciated their brilliance until my love has been rekindled in the last few weeks. I cannot wait until their new album comes out, and I will see them at least twice on their next tour.
Edit: I got the new Damian Marley, Welcome to Jamrock. I hadn't heard anything off of it and hadn't heard anything from Damian Marley in a couple years. I must say, I'm more impressed than I thought I would be, especially with all the commerical push behind this album. If you're looking to get into dancehall and don't want to jump straight into Sizzla, check this album out.
I have so much more music that I wish I had more time to listen to. If you want anything I have, I'll be happy to burn it for you, just ask me.
