In my recent order were three Elizabeth Peters (Vicky Bliss series) which have duly arrived and are something of a surprise.
They are the same width as US paperbacks (slightly narrower the UK paperbacks) but noticeably taller! Why? What's going on? Is the US moving to a new format? I must say that the binding as also nicer (softer) as the US paperback binding is usually very tight and often wrinkles the pages. (There was a brief time when Australia Harlequin / Mills and Boon books were being produced with a super soft binding and paper combination which was the best I've ever seen - but they went away from that within a year or so. Another 'why' that will never be answered.)

US paperbacks (top) are slightly shorter than UK paperbacks (bottom)

This new US paperback (bottom) is much taller than previous US paperbacks (top)

But they are still the same width (slightly narrower than UK paperbacks)
Oh, for a little standardisation!
