Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto. C'mon, we know this already.

My first contribution to the comm! =3 I'll be treating this as an entire fic, I guess. This means that it won't be overly romantic in the beginning (as you'll see in this one). I hope you all enjoy!

His Sharingan had proven to be an effective force amongst fellow shinobi ever since he’d been able to fully awaken its true powers. It was a celebrated (and not recently, rare) doujutsu that only a select few possessed, rival only to the Hyuuga Clan’s Byakugan. The Konoha jounin revered those eerily red, mirror-wheeled eyes; many of his fellow chuunin envied them; the village people admired them.

He loathed them.

Yes, it was true that they’d been useful during training sessions and missions with his team. They had granted him with both instant respect and fear over the years in which he’d struggled to fully master them. They had aided him in his goal in one day repaying his older brother for his unforgivable transgressions.

However, he’d since realized that those wonders that he called his kekkai genkai were mixed blessings. With their unfathomable value came the infuriating acknowledgement that no one knew him as anything but the sole survivor of his clan. He was the Uchiha who’d managed to avoid the brutal slaughter of his family. He was the Uchiha of nearly every female’s affections; he was the Uchiha who was rumored to let nothing stand in his way of his ambitions. He was the sole survivor; he was the lone avenger.

Yet, he desperately wished for people to realize just how much they’d erred in their assumptions of him. He longed to be seen as something other than Uchiha Sasuke for once. To be able to drop that surname for even a day… Wishing that everyone could see past his Sharingan eyes was something akin to a young child wishing to grow unrealistically tall in an instant, however. There was no logical way in which it could actually come true.

But when he began training with them in private and realized that they had maintained eye contact with him not because of his esteemed reputation, but because they knew something more important lay deep within those dark obscurities, he knew they didn’t care much about the characteristic that reflected his clan. They accepted him without any fear or hesitation: the brunette had disregarded the fact that he was a doujutsu-handler like her prodigy teammate; the blonde had merely scoffed at his detestations about his eyes and told him that there were still formidable foes out there who would die to be born with such ‘blessings’.

When he wasn’t completely convinced, they simply concocted their own special rule during training sessions: no bloodline techniques were to be allowed. It benefited them all - the brunette could effectively use her knowledge of weapons against her two opponents; the blonde could make her fan into a more intimidating weapon against the two younger shinobi; but most of all, he would be able to prove himself to them.

Without the Sharingan or the Uchiha, he was still Sasuke. Tenten and Temari’s private decree had not proved to be meaningless so far. There was a much higher probability of him losing to the two of them once he let down his major offense; that, he was aware of. What mattered was that he had accepted their challenge.

…And although many others would utter their grievances at this seemingly unfair advantage, he was perfectly content in it.
