some rooftop action for Teppic

Feb 17, 2012 18:23

There was something refreshing about standing on top of a building, by herself, no one else to worry about or bother her. She hadn't had a solo mission in way too long. Before going in, Sarah checked to make sure that the tracking device she had placed on the target hadn't moved. And it hadn't. Good. She slipped the GPS into the case clipped to her ( Read more... )

Teppic wasn't doing much except checking out the city - it was just for fun, more than anything else, and jumped from one rooftop to the next, moving almost silently. He arrived on the same rooftop as Sarah with a very, very soft 'thud', and wondered if she'd notice him. He almost took it as a challenge to not be noticed, and moved towards the other side of the roof. He imagined that she'd be attentive enough to notice him after a few footsteps. She looked like she was the sort to.

Sarah was very on her guard. A mission could go wrong at any second, and she had to pay attention to every little detail or risk being caught or worse. So while the sound of Teppic landing on the roof was soft enough to dismiss as nothing, Sarah immediately drew her gun and pointed it in the direction the sound had come from.

At first, she thought it might have just been a shadow. But then she heard a nearly-inaudible footstep and knew she had company. Keeping her gun trained on where she thought Teppic was, she circled around him almost silently, wondering why the hell he was up here interfering with her mission.

He spotted her pointing what he presumed to be a weapon, and froze, holding his hands up, "I mean no harm." He sounded relatively calm, though, and was glad that he'd been right about thinking she'd spot him. That meant he was at least prepared.

"Then what are you doing here?" Sarah was outwardly calm too, but inside she was getting irritated. This guy might have no connection to the target, but how could she trust that? She'd have to subdue him before she could proceed.

"I just... I just do this for fun. I didn't mean to interrupt anything." He held his hands up openly, and pulled his climbing gloves off so she could see, "I am not armed and do not wish you harm."

Sarah edged closer, keeping the gun aimed at Teppic's chest.

"Fun? Seriously?" The idea that somebody spent their free time sneaking around on rooftops for fun was almost so weird it could be true. It's wasn't like she herself found this part of the job totally unenjoyable. But there was no way she was going to risk believing him. "Get on the ground."

"Yes, seriously, it's a sport." He frowned and uncertainly got to his knees. He didn't know what the weapon was, but it was obviously a weapon. "You can have my money, if that's what you want. But really, none of this is necessary."

"What, like some kind of parkour?" He didn't appear to have a parachute, so it couldn't be BASE jumping.

She circled around behind him, letting go of the gun with one hand and reaching into one of her pockets for a zip tie. "I don't want your money. Just stay still."

"I don't... quite know the meaning of parkour, but if that's a sport of climbing urban landmarks, then... yes." He watched her carefully, "If you don't want my money, then what do you want?"

Sarah was pretty skeptical about the idea that a rooftop parkour enthusiast just happened to stumble upon a CIA operative on a covert assignment. The fact that he was so stealthy and appeared totally calm when threatened with a firearm only made him more suspicious.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw something move. It was definitely not a shadow. Two people, moving towards them quickly.

"Stay down."

He was, admittedly, an assassin, which removed most nervousness around weapons, even ones he didn't understand. He stayed down, and tried to peer up out the corner of his eye, and asked in whispered tones, "What... what's happening?"

Sarah touched a finger to her lips to indicate that he should be quiet, the gestured for him to make his way towards the edge of the roof. There should be a balcony one story down that wouldn't be hard to jump to.

Teppic nodded cooly, and silently moved over to the edge of the roof, to peer over. He didn't say a word, but looked up, as if to ask 'what're you after?'.

Sarah stopped right at the edge, keeping a few feet of distance between herself and Teppic. She still didn't trust him. The two men on the other side of the roof - guards, she assumed, unless there was a rooftop parkour convention going on - hadn't noticed them yet, but it was only a matter of moments.

The balcony was only about fifteen feet down. Sarah nodded towards him, telling him to jump.

He followed her instruction, looked over quickly, judging the distance, then happily flung himself over the side of the roof. He did it with such precision, though, that he landed on the balcony perfectly, and then he glanced up to her, hoping this wasn't a worse trap.

Sarah went after him, opting to simply drop down rather than do any flinging. The room immediately off the balcony was clear, so Sarah jimmied the lock and slipped inside, moving to grab Teppic and tug him along.
