A 14 Minute Preview of HBO's new fantasy show Game of Thrones is
online for your viewing pleasure. I'm super, super excited about this show - I started reading the books a few weeks ago (no spoilers plz, only on book 3) and I am really enjoying it. I adore quite a few of the characters, but I really love all the political intrigue and think HBO is an excellent fit for the series. Hopefully it will all work out!
I haven't read fantasy in forever because Robert Jordan kind of ruined it for me with his over-the-top, super bloated, too large of an ensemble, gah-why-has-nothing-happened-in-two-whole-books Wheel of Time series, but this is pleasantly different. It's still got a huge number of characters who are running around in separate parts of the world, but very rarely do I mind jumping from POV to POV. Plus, the magic is kind of kept in the background and is there for a nice horror undercurrent, which is the way I usually like my fantasy.
But anyway, the 14 minute clip is kind of awesome because it's such a tease. I'm curious as to what non-readers think of it. There's so much going on in that clip, but it's all so subtle, so I'd love to know what you took away from it and if it piqued your interest at all. I know I was dying for more, but I think that's just because I knew the scene that was about to follow from where they cut and was all like "Whhhhhhhhhhhhhy?"
Also, I know I haven't posted in forever, but I figured this is as good a time as any. And I especially think that people who like Dragon Age will enjoy this because I swear to you David Gaider and the Bioware peeps have totally poached a few ideas from this series (Night's Watch=Grey Wardens, fo' realz, yo).
