outfits, laptops, & fur

It's been a while since I posted, largely because I've been sick and feeling kinda manky and tired. However I'm looking pretty cute in a checked olive green chiffon shirt with big floppy sleeves, a fine black wool dress with a draped neckline, a slightly raised waist and some pleats so the skirt bells out a bit, striped black tights and mary-janes. It should take attention away from how tired my eyes look. And there's going to be salsa tonight so yay.

I had to buy a new laptop on the weekend because more and more of the casing on the old one was falling off and I ended up with the screen being held on by only one hinge. Got all my stuff off there, started wiping the harddrive prior to scraping the thing. New laptop is a Toshiba running Vista- I'm not yet used to how it Wants To HELP ME all the time in a manner that gets in the way of me doing things. It's a labrador puppy of an OS, constantly bouncing up at you while you're carrying hot coffee. [You can tell I'm tired by the care I take with outfits and the sloppiness of my analogies]

Having expressed skeptisism on the weekend that Sydney got cold enough to justify fur without also raining, the city is now proving me completely wrong with a series of sunny and icy-cold days and now I wish I *had* bought a coat from the vintage stalls at the Surray Hills market. You could suggle into it and pretend for just a bit longer that you'd never left bed.

NEW! Suburb review: Surray Hills
Ladies and Gentlemen, we may have a winner for the 'Where's Jo Going to Live Next?' quest, or at least a leading contender. Surray Hills seems to fall in between the Newtown and Glebe demographics and is also where all the vintage shops in Sydney appear to be hiding. Tree-lined streets, walking distance to the CBD, nice coffee in some astonishing cool* cafes, an amazing Moroccan restaurant where I had lunch, just a nice little place where it would be really nice to live.

However, this weekend is Balmain. I'm starting to enjoy this city more now that I'm focusing on going out and having little missions to explore it. There's these little pockets of Neat Stuff lurking around. I just need to focus on finding it.

*furnished from the Sallies and with some excellent art on the walls that reminded me a bit of old-school Java Cafe**.
