Yes to all of that. Budgets a bit tighter these days and agrathea is not as keen on the long drive. We'll see. I'll have to do some research on reasons that make it worthwhile.
There is talk of SMOFCon in Hawaii too so if that happens, then you can go there. My ex and I drove across the country from Ohio to Seattle when my oldest was 1 year old. We went through the Badlands and visited Yellowstone in the process. We went out through the northern states and came back through the southern ones. It was a LONG trip, but we camped and enjoyed the trip. We even stopped in Sturgis.
I did a couple of trips like those. I drove from Mississippi to both Toronto and Boston for Worldcons, and I drove from there to here when I moved. I kind of burned out on long road trips, so I need a little something extra to get me to do another.
You are also the second person to remind me of Yellowstone, which I've always wanted to see. There is a lot of empty out that way though, which makes long drives less fun.
Having just spent 2 weeks in Alaska in August/September, I heartily urge you to go! Go directly to Alaska, do not pass Go, do not collect $200, just GO! We spent one week on land and one week on a National Geographic cruise on a small ship (62 passengers) and it was the best vacation we've ever had. We've traveled to over a dozen countries, lived abroad twice, and Alaska was better than all of that!
Also, WisCon, yeah! You would love the programming and the people, and Madison is a nice town.
Yes, the idea of all that unspoiled nature is highly appealing, and it is easier to get to since I moved up to Oregon. I miss unsullied nature, like some of the reserves in South Africa that I grew up visiting.

Minicon, Fourth Street Fantasy, and Wiscon spring immediately to mind.
Or perhaps Gaylaxicon.
And if you drive from the Left Coast, you could knock off most of the remaining states with very little effort when you go There and Back Again...
