I keep thinking I ought to post and then rejecting whatever I would have to say about my life right now as almost absurdly mundane, but since I've been so darn happy lately I keep feeling like I ought to say something. But seriously, look at this. Mostly I've been puttering in the garden, getting some homey-ness into (and boxes out of) the main living areas of the house, knitting and reading up a storm, listening to every Twins game, and teaching approximately six hours of summer school a day. (Fewer dollars coming in with that schedule, but I have to admit I'm getting used to this coming-home-at-1:30-in-the-afternoon thing.) Thrills aplenty!
But yeah. Summer school has actually been a nice change of pace, especially since there's been only one toddler lately and I'm instead getting a chance to work with the infants. So not only do I come home in the early afternoon, I come home smelling like babies.
In a good way.
Last weekend was something of a diversion because South St. Paul threw Kaposia Days right on our front doorstep. The parade (an hour and a half long, incidentally) went just about right past our house, and we watched the Sunday night fireworks display from our backyard. May have been the first fireworks I've ever seen where I didn't have to battle traffic to get back home. Walking up the back steps was a marked improvement.
The rest of Kaposia Days was your standard, fun little small town summer festival. And I mean small town, despite it technically being a suburb, I guess: the day of the parade there were empty folding chairs and camp chairs lining the entire parade route all day long, saving people's spots, and I swear at the end of the day they were all still there. There were actually people standing and watching the parade, next to empty chairs, because they didn't belong to them. Unreal. But anyway. We skipped most other festivities on account of their being heavily geared towards children and on account of us not having any. I don't think they would have let me go in the bouncy castle.
Next week I have completely work-free (also, as above mentioned, compensation free, but we'll scrape through) and Allen miraculously has no shows, so we'll probably get to go on our first us-only camping trip since summer before last. Not sure yet where we're going, but honestly, I don't even care, so long as it involves a tent and, preferably, a canoe.
Anybody wanna pet sit? Heh.
And finally, I'm all excited cuz I got what I think is a super birthday gift for Allen, namely the new DVD set of the Twins' 1987 World Series. (Only a teeny bit for me, I swear. The 1991 series would be for me.) Now I just hope he'll like it as much as I think he will. And that he checks this journal as never as I think he does.
