Our home inspection was this morning at 10am, and thanks to some very kindhearted and creative shuffling on the part of some coworkers of mine, I was able to have my room covered so I could be there for most of the inspection. I'm glad I was, though really, it was more important that Allen was there, since he's the one who's been reading up on all this stuff and knew the questions to ask. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he started looking into becoming a home inspector himself. I can't think of another day job that would thrill him as much as that.
But anyway, the inspection went very well. Everything looked pretty good, though they hadn't looked in the attic yet when I had to leave to get back to school before naptime. I'm guessing, though, that if they found some horrible surprise up there (rats, meth lab, dead bodies) I would have heard about it by now. The inspection was really the biggest hurdle we were facing (since, knock on wood, we're pretty confident about the financial end of the closing) so we're allowing ourself to get excited for real now.
Plus, it was exciting to walk around the house again, this time with the mindset that it just might really be ours now. I got to actually let myself start envisioning where our furniture would go and what rooms we would need to paint and that sort of fun stuff. Now that the inspection is done and had no problems, they're not allowed to show it anymore, which feels very reassuring. Steve (our realtor, who we did NOT dump and now I must say I'm glad we didn't) says the sellers' realtor has had some other requests to see the house this week, but now they have to be told that it's pending and therefore off limits. Having been on the other end of that situation, I can say that I much prefer being one of the ones it's pending for.
So now we just have to wait (and pack and clean and plan) for a month and a week, until our closing date. And though it seems like Christmas was just last week, I have a strong suspicion that March will not go nearly as quickly.
