Hewlett Packard Hell

It should have been easy, right? A simple proposition: laserprint the address of our new studio on cardstock. But no, I happen to own the Hewlett Packard Laserjet 1020, also known as the printer from hell. Not only does HP not provide a proper driver for OS X, forcing me to use a public domain kludge that a) can't print multiple copies and b) won't print from Photoshop or Adobe Reader, but the thing can't handle cardstock properly.

Feeding cardstock through this crapulent piece of technology results in paper jams, toner spills and (when it does work) variable placement of print elements as the printer seems to have a freeform/dadaist interpretation of margins.

I want something to replace it. Something inexpensive and simple that does monochrome laserprinting for writing, labelling and for printing on cardstock. HP seems to be the top of the heap in the low end, and I have heard only horror stories about Lexmark, Samsung and Brother (with their insanely overpriced 2-piece toner/drum systems) products. For over a decade, I had no issues with HP products, but the last two printers I purchased from this company were miserable beasts, with never-ending driver and paper-feed issues (my previous printer was an HP inkjet), and even shoddier customer support.

I need something that works.

Any ideas? Anyone? Anyone?
