The Phantom of the Opera is There, Inside my Mind...

Wow! What a day! Our friend Gary called at three and gifted us with a pair of seats to tonight's performance of The Phantom of the Opera at the Prince of Wales Theatre. And what a show it was. The sets and costumes were amazing and the performances were superb. John Cudia as the Phantom packed a wallop with his powerful voice and excellent acting. Unfortunately, there were serious issues with the sound system. The mix sounded compressed and midrange and bass tones were completely lacking. This made it very difficult to follow the choral numbers as they sounded like a jumbled, warbled cacophony. In fact, when the show started, I thought the overture was taped (the sound was that bad). Nevertheless, it was quite the show and a couple of the stage pieces completely blew my mind. Of course, I was captivated by the personage of the Phantom, but then again, I always root for the outsider and what a wonderful message about what cruelty can do to twist one's mind and soul.

Spectacular and magical stuff. I want to see it again! (Preferably with good sound.)
