The Reunited Police Rock Out at the Whiskey-à-Go-Go

Feb 12, 2007 20:35

I earmarked time this afternoon to watch the Webcast of the reunited Police rehearsal/tour announcement and was blown away. Although the band split up in 1984, the musicians have retained their chops and that sacred fire that made their music so powerful to begin with. While Sting has maintained the highest profile since the band's demise, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers have continued to map out their own careers along various paths (for example, Summers collaborated with Robert Fripp on a couple of albums and Copeland formed a band called Animal Logic that saw a measure of success) and have maintained their level of musicianship. Copeland was inciendiary behind the drum kit, playing with speed and finesse. Summer's guitar work was just as ethereal and atmospheric as ever and Sting occupied the role of firebrand lead singer/bassist with aplomb. I was awed and I hope to get tickets for either the Toronto or Montreal shows when they go on sale this Saturday.
