My Love Affair with IKEA continues to sour...

I am cleaning up and organizing my office and I have recently added an IKEA cabinet that was moved from the living room to the den after it was replaced by a handbuilt piece. Today while trying to store cameras on the top shelf (which makes sense because one puts the most used items at the top), I discovered that the back of the cabinet had become unstuck and therefore placing something the size and weight of a digital SLR on the top would cause the shelf to tip back and spill it's contents onto the shelf below it. To fix it requires some minor surgery but it is still annoying that a piece of furniture that is less than two years old is giving me problems.

I've come to realize that furnishing from the Swedish furniture giant come in two varieties only: the type of pieces that will last a lifetime and the type that fall apart if you ever decide to move them (even from one room to the next). Douglas Coupland was completely wrong when he called IKEA a maker of semi-disposable Swedish design furniture because that suggests that their products exist somewhere between the two extremes I have listed above.

I now return to my regulary-scheduled office clean-up reorganization.
