I had recently posted my thoughts about it here . It's grown on me a bit, but I still think at least 1/3 of the album is filler. A good effort, but nothing that really moves me.
Yeah, yours is the only in-depth LJ review I'd read. I wonder, though, when people complain that her albums are full of filler, how much various listeners agree which tracks are filler. Maybe there are people who dismiss from her last three albums "General Joy," "Secret Spell" and "Fire to Your Plain," while I find all those among my favorites. In fact, I'd totally be into her concerts again if I thought I had a strong shot at hearing two of those three.
I have a feeling they'll push Fire to Your Plain (though I swear she's really singing "Fire to your PAIN") as the next single, so it's a good chance you'll hear that one live. D and I are skipping this tour. I had not missed a tour of hers since "Under the Pink", however, we can no longer justify getting ass-mastered by ticketbastard for an artist we've both seen 20+ times and are not as into as we used to be.
Yeah, it's tough when you compare that price to the $15 or less that I often pay for bands I love. I suppose I could start watching the tour-report websites to see if she's playing "Secret Spell" or "General Joy" at all... but then that's kind of the thing, there's this whole weird industry around micropicking apart everything she does, and following the symbolism of her wigs and maps and gardens she includes, and I kind of consciously ditched that.
And besides, when she's in Detroit, I'll be in Rishikesh.

like the song. hate the way it was arranged on the record. that seems to be a recurring theme with me and Tori these days.
