I am so glad Menolly let you give this a second half. I too felt like I had to know what happened after her wonderful little Christmas offering. You did a terrific job with this too. It has that perfect melancholy tone, and it could fit with the Riververse as well which is nice. I am also just plain glad that someone(s) thought of Blythe. It seemed cruel to me to leave her thinking her son was dead, no matter her own failings.

I loved the Liquor Barn and alcohol descriptions too. It seemed very Wilson POVish to notice the details the way you had them:

single malt from some island in the Hebrides with an unpronounceable name, good Kentucky bourbon, gin in a crystal-blue bottle that actually looked a lot like antifreeze and probably would've served the same purpose....a bottle of Bordeaux from a shelf, some small part of his mind identifying it as one he'd shared with Amber, and added it to the cart

And then to sit in the parking lot for 30 minutes. Sometimes there is just something so sad about Wilson. Always trying to do the right thing by everyone else, yet always slightly on the outside of everyone else's life. I was pleased when House climbed in the bed with him.

LOL, it was me who sent Wilson to the liquor store, and Nightdog who provided all those fantastic details.

Yeah, Wilson and that sadness of his. Trying to do right by everyone, but also keeping a minimum safe distance from whatever explosions of joy and rage might be going on with House and his mom.

I, too, was very pleased when House climbed into Wilson's bed.
