I've decided to take the
Paleo Challenge over at Crossfit West Santa Cruz.
I've been doing Crossfit for just over 6 weeks and while I have noticed improvements physically (better muscle/fat ratio and some weight loss) and overall fitness, I have a feeling I'm not maximizing what it can do for me.
One aspect I know I can improve in is my diet. Since February of this year when I was doing P90X at home, I've been more conscious about improving my diet. But every now and then the devil on my shoulder convinces me that a Jack-in-the-Box run is exactly what I needed. I didn't hear about Paleo diets until starting Crossfit and my initial impression was that it was a cool idea but not something for me. Cutting out sugar, salt and especially starches was not something I was willing to sacrifice. So when this challenge was issued and I figured "Why not?" It helps that the prize is almost $500 worth of classes.
The biggest challenge I foresee is that when I'm left to my own devices, I can maybe stick with a strict diet for about 3 weeks at most. With scheduled 'off-days' I can probably double that. I need to figure out a way to double it again to 12 weeks.
I certainly need to do some extra planning to pull this off. Because my schedule over the next 3 months will definitely need 'off-days' as I have a few distractions that will make it a rough go (Drunken Dodgeball, Comic-Con and possibly camping).
