A Very Long Engagement, Kill Bill, v. 2, Closer, Collateral. So, Ray's your top choice, eh? From the clips I've seen, Foxx's performance seems phenomenal. He was also great in his two Mann films. Amen.

South Beach Cinema a couple of weeks ago. You know, Morrissey sort of looks like Vanilla Ice on your icon. Amen to that!

I didn't enjoy "Kill Bill" as much as the first one, and I'm a reluctant fan of the first. I haven't seen "Closer" or "A Very Long Engagement." I rescreened "Collateral" last week: I enjoyed the supporting performances (especially Jada Pincket Smith and the jazzman's) much better than RoboCruise's; the direction seems oddly anonymous.

I'm not going to repeat the obvious faults in "Ray" (most of which are the fault of the director; the first four letters of his last name will explain everything); but no other film this year gave me as much pleasure.

I thought Collateral had vintage Mann: cooler than thou protagonist/antagonist, close-ups of cooler than thou's face w/ no discernible expression other than i'm cooler than thou, and good guy's always win ending. I think the color saturation suffered due to dv utilization, but it did capture them night lights all sprinkly. Javier Bardem was good in it, too. The third act was blah, but well directed, imo.

Do you have the Before Sunrise dvd? I really need to see that one.
