doom and gloom
I was looking through the papers today and found m,any instances of doom and gloom. I must say that some doom is worse than gloom, and, on the other hand, some gloom is far worse than some doom. Sometimes it's a toss-up. But, essentially, doom and gloom are usually found together and it is usually a good fit. The world's explorers, voyagers and immigrants have been people who found that the doom and gloom at home was worse than the doom and gloom to be found on other shores: on the whole a blend of optimism with morbid fear.
