The book

It's like slogging through molasses now.  I have 46,000 words with my target being between 55 and 65,000.

And I hate my characters.  No seriously.  I can't stand them anymore.  How do you fall back in love with characters that you're sick to death of?  Stephen King was so right when he said that the first draft shouldn't take longer than a season.  I'm on year two with this lot.
I'm seriously considering writing death scenes for them if only to take the electric paddles to this book.  Of course, I wouldn't kill off the characters in the story, but maybe it would help me feel more grateful for them to be "alive."

I refuse to be dead in the water. Refuse. I'm not getting this close and abandoning the project. I am the queen of all projects unfinished. If there was a religion based on unfinished projects, I would be worshipped in temples with three complete walls and a side made of studs.

Oy. Does anyone else who writes run into this problem? If so, got any suggestions for this neophyte?
