This isn't recent, but I remembered it while driving home tonight.
Hwy 17 to Santa Cruz, CA, is a treacherous stretch of road. It's a winding mountain highway built for half the traffic it takes at 2/3 the speed. Accidents happen at least once a week, often very serious. Sometime during the last year a hand-lettered sign appeared on the shoulder of the south-bound lane. In red letters on white poster board, it simply reads "Thanx for saving Mom".
That alone is enough to brighten my day every time I see it, but I recently found
an article in the local paper that sheds a little bit more light on the subject. Enjoy!
