The fan on my macbook is making terrible noises. I tried all the reset suggestions. I think I'm going to have to take it apart and look inside to see if there's something physical that's making it so noisy. Because the whirring grinding sounds kind of make me want to kill myself.
Today at the library was pretty interesting. There was a reception for the new art exhibit, by artist Lenny Silverberg, who recently collaborated with poet Steve Kowit on a book called Crossing Borders (both of them are Brooklyn College grads). A bunch of students who had met him while he was hanging the exhibit came to the reception which was really sweet. He's taught a lot, so I guess he's used to dealing with students, but I was impressed by how he interacted with these kids. I also liked the artworks, which have a beautifully tender style (the images are of refugees and homeless people; the homeless portraits are from life and memory, the refugees are based on news photos).
these are from the publisher's web site,

The other thing that was going on was that some right-wing pundit called David Horowitz was going to speak at the Library auditorium and there was an anti-demonstration planned. Therefore a whole ton of CUNY security arrived at the library around 3.30 pm and demanded a lot of things from me (WE NEED A KEY TO THE AUDITORIUM, NOW!) before the people actually in charge arrived and fixed things. My shift was over at 6 pm so I left, but by then a bunch of high-level library administrators had arrived and were all at the reference desk (which is basically next to the auditorium entrance) eagle-eying the people lined up to enter. The library auditorium only holds 144 so I don't know what they were expecting, but anything that involves academic freedoms and/or anti-Israel sentiment causes emotions to run high at Brooklyn College. I left through the back entrance, and it was raining, so I have no idea whether the demonstration was a problem or not. I do know that another anti-Israeli protest at NYU, scheduled for the same time, had been canceled, so I guess all the anti-Israeli people might possibly have been free.
The reference librarians who were still around all came out to the desk too, wearing their "WE ARE ALL WISCONSIN" stickers (unions are very important at CUNY!)
I guess if anything happened I'll read about it tomorrow. Right now I'm going to watch the final ep of Dream High ♥
