Thanksgiving wrap-up

Nov 27, 2010 00:13

I have spent most of this week being alternately up in the clouds with glee and all sad because it's going to be a while before my next jpop concert. Possibly a long while.

Still feeling rather depleted from being sick and glad to have a lot of time off this week (relatively speaking). Monday I was spared the usual T-shepherding chores, and napped a lot, then got to go work out with Ty and Ay. Which I was DREADING but it actually went very well and I did a lot of stretching which helped me feel SO MUCH better. And then the next day I went to Ty's class at the Y, which also helped cheer me up. Plus being sick meant I lost the weight I gained over the summer and was having such a hard time getting rid of, so all my clothes are much more comfy now and I feel better in my body.

Weds I had to work and it was really busy (somewhat to my surprise, but I guess that's typical for a commuter campus) and people were very grateful for my help :-)

Thanksgiving itself lasted about 11 hours, with about 4.5 of that consisting of driving veeerrry slowly along the Hutch through southern Westchester. There were no accidents, just too many cars for the road to accommodate comfortably. I thought about urban planning issues while listening to a classic rock station punctuated by the rest of my family snoring in the back seat.

We were at my mom's with my sister and her husband and 5-year-old daughter, so the age range was about 75 years with the heaviest concentration in the 40s.

to start:

cocktail shrimp with cocktail sauce
cranberry fromage roulade (picked up last minute at Sahadi by me, appeared to be neufchatel spread with cranberry preserves then rolled and sliced, quite yummy)
whole wheat Carr's
white wine

then:

Turkey (roasted by my mom)
2 kinds of stuffing (one had sausage and cornbread, or so I was told)
Gravy, made by T  and BIL
17th-c style cranberry chutney a la Keeler Tavern
Some other kind of cranberry sauce (both of the above made by my mom)
Winter Vegetable Purée, from Deborah Madison's The Savory Way (made by me)
Mashed potatoes, made by P
Butternut squash purée (with nutmeg)
Haricots verts (with butter and toasted almonds), made by me
Green salad (made by my sister)

Pumpkin pie with Redi-Whip (but the all-natural kind), made by my sister and her daughter C from the recipe on the can

red wine with everything

In other words, fairly typical for us. Sometimes we start with a squash soup instead of having pureed squash with the meal. We never have sweet potato, I think that's a southern/midwestern thing. Everything I ate (not including the gravy and stuffing, since I dislike them) was quite yummy.

The most fun moment was when we were all in the kitchen together working on our various dishes, right before we were ready to sit down. My mother enjoyed the sight of 2 of her her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandson laboring to finish up the holiday dinner, while she sat n the breakfast nook and played with C, very much!

I don't have any pics because I managed to leave both my camera and my purse behind. So I have no cell phone, no cash, no atm card, no metro card, no work ID or key card--tomorrow at work should be fun. I do my have driver's license so they should let me on campus with a visitor sticker. I might even have my blue card which would simplify everything greatly. My sister is bringing everything back with her tomorrow and I will pick it up from her on Sun in Manhattan when I am not working.

Saturday, I am taking T with me to work so he can hang out with his friend Ian during the day. Then Ian's mom & I will have some kind of girl's night out. I don't know what it will consist of.

In drama-related news, I have finished all the subbed eps of Gloria, which are actually all the eps of Gloria (1-31 are out and have been subbed). Only 19 more left to go! And while they may have started out being 45-50 minutes long, each one is now over an hour. I don't know what that means, other than more of a time commitment than I had originally intended.

Kang Seuk's depressing bedroom. Yes, the accent color is bile green.

The contrast of his gorgeous self with the hideous sheets is startling!

I wouldn't want to get under those covers either.

Whereas Jin Jin, in contrast, has pretty red, white, and pink sheets. Even though she has to sleep on the floor (is Korea a champion floor sleeping nation or what?)

thanks!, cell phone, sometimes i am an adult, my mother, my life, 2010, holidays, family connecticut, rl, real life, today yesterday and the day before that, wilton, kdramas
